My best friend snapped around 19 and was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He lived at his house, until his illness got him kicked out. Then he lived with me. I woke up to him hovering over a female friend. He had sharpied his face Completely black and was holding a crudely sharpened stick to her throat. I didn't even kick him out then. I wanted to, I couldn't just send him to the streets though. Me and another friend and his sister did all the paperwork to get him his own apartment paid for by disability. We hung out with him a couple times a week and he even had a caregiver who came and checked on him, did his grocery shopping etc. He lost his apartment after a misunderstanding with a security guard who was following him around a store because of him being " out of place ". He was charged and lost his apartment due to his incarceration. He has no family, by this time I'm living with someone else too cause I fell on hard times and he was forced to the streets. He was charged a hundred plus times his first year homeless. Not for violence or stealing. Its always two charges. Defiant trespassing, and resisting arrest. He's been charged a good 300 - 500 times by now. They accumulate, he does 30 days his jail where he's throw into gen pop and then he's realized and the cycle repeats itself. If any of these places see him, Wawa, CVS, etc, they just instantly call the cops because he stands out like a sore thumb. We like to think we have programs to help these people. We dont. The programs are horrible. They're designed so 99% can't jump through the hoops, with or without loved ones supporting them. He's a Shell of the person he once was, and I can't do a fucking thing to help him. I can barely help myself. He's got nobody now. He's homeless and in that cycle of jail, and I can see it escalating. I know him, hes no threat to me, but he is a threat to all of you cause he's not healthy. He's developing a distain for cops and society in general cause no matter where he goes or what he does he gets the cops called on him. We all sleep tight in our houses and tell ourselves that our tax money is taking care of these types of people. Its not! Its so hard to watch someone you care about waste away in from or you, and you not be able to do a thing about it. The Steve I knew is dead, but his shell, his physical body is still here, so you can't do anything but hold onto hope. He's been in medicine. It wither didn't help or turned him a zombie and he wouldn't take it because of that. There's mentally sick people all over the country homeless and one step away from being in your house, or hurting someone. I think it was during Nixon era that we close down mental health facilities, and that was probably for the best, but we should have had some type of the replacement. Now these sick people are just homeless, wondering the streets, and becoming more of a threat to society each day until the do something to end up in jail for the long haul. I can't help but worry about all the mentally sick ticking time bombs that are just waiting for the wrong situation to light their fuse so the can explode. You know what percent of homeless people suffer from mental disabilities. The majority of them... We can't just keep sticking our heads in the sand about the problem. It could be your house that my sick friend stumbles into and kills you because he thinks you're a demon. The dumb ass cops won arrest him 100 times a year are really " serving and protecting ". Do they not notice he's mentality I'll or do they just not care? I truly think they dont care.. Its easier for them to just cuff him and charge him with what they can instead of trying to get to the root for the problem. I didnt dislike cops until I saw how my friend was treated. They arrest him, make jokes at his expense to his face, and then go on facebook and make jokes behind his back to the whole community. Such a noble calling. Hey pigs please wake uo. You're government cronies. Prison industrial complex salesmen. You take an oath to uphold the constitution and then you stomp on it when your higher ups tell you to. Serve and protect means make fun of mentally sick people and then throw the in jail, cause that's easier than getting to the root of the problem. You dont serve us, you prey on us. You dont protect us, we protect ourselves and then we get charged caused were supposed to tell the guy assaulting us " wait I'm calling the police! " like thats gonna top him. You tell yourselves you serve the community while you commit highway robbery call over the country? We should have the right to protect ourselves but instead were stripped of that right and told that you pussy cowards have to do it for us. The training makes you judge us all for our skin tones and how we look. You get drilled with " you wanna go home to your families right ", and " take no chances ". Then we wonder why you cowards are shooting unarmed people you just asked for I'd. Cops rarely ever get shot at but that statistic is throw out the window ever other stop you have. You trained to not value life. The system is fucked. You're not a hero, you dont serve us. You tell yourselves this so you can sleep at night. If you all died tomorrow it'd be a better world and that's a sad truth. Thats because of pussy man with a need to feel empowered becomes a cop. You got a need to get back at society, get a badge. Your local force has 1-4 manly lesbian coos because the jobs serves their male bravado. You all think you're above the law and a lot times you are. Its in big criminal organization, and pike a criminal organization you adopt the no snitching policy so the good cops can't even out the bad ones. If this covid shit erodes society how many of you noble fucks are gonna show up to work to " serve your community ". I can protect myself and we should have that right. You dumb ass delusional fucks are we dont have that right. Keep telling yourself you serve the community. What ever let's you sleep at night.

This reminds me of a girl that I met once who had just... some of the worst mental hallucinations I'd ever had described to me probably. She's the only person I've ever met that has them, but they were worse than the things that movies describe. She would vividly see clowns and shadows murdering her family right before her eyes, then moving to attack her. She'd scream and fall to the floor and beg to be left alone and would claw her arms up until she was covered in sores... I met her in a mental facility. I was only at the place for a very short time, but she was my roommate and it was hard to sleep with her often when things like that happened. You couldn't even help her. The thing is, she had been stuck in mental facilities her whole life it turns out, because her parents just have no idea how to help her, so they think that putting her in one is the best option... and, it's not. I feel like she still to this day would be a lot happier if she was _with_ her family to make sure they were all okay. Then again, maybe her terrors got so violent that _she_ became violent. Either way... jail or mental facility, its almost like you can't help people with issues like this. Medication doesn't help, therapy doesn't help, treatments don't help... it's the saddest thing really.

I work in a male prison in a different country and the amount of inmates who have mental illness is shocking. We've had inmates who were completely delusional and didn't know where they were half the time, we regularly get schizophrenics (and have one serving a life sentence right now), we've had a few with brain damage who were very dependent to the point where they have to be told to shower and change their clothes (otherwise they'll wear the same clothes forever and never bathe), we currently have one guy (also serving life) who is non-verbal autistic... it's madness. It's not fair on them, and it's not fair on the officers who interact with them every day, because none of us are suitably mental health qualified. Prison is simply a cheaper option than a mental health facility. And when one of these guys behaves erratically, acts out or becomes belligerent because he's frustrated, officers react the only way they know how - restrain him and place him in isolation until the prison psych can make an appointment to see him. These guys often leave prison in worse shape (mentally) than when they arrived. It's a disgrace, and it's happening in lots of places.

maybe I'm the only one who dislike the way they developed this character's attitude throughout the show. When she first appears in the aeroplane she is so cool and friendly, and doesn't look mentally disturbed at all. I really liked her and I hoped to see her again. When she reappeared I was very happy, but then it looked like the director decided to give her a new attitude because they needed someone to play the mentally disturbed part....in my opinion they had to think of this before or they had to give this role to a new character. However her story is very nice and I'd have enjoyed it more if I hadn't seen another version of Lolly in the aeroplane.

@@LifeisaBeautifulting they might have snapped out of it. I have been gaslit and mentally tortured for years and that can eff you up. I have heard voices in my head as if I had an internal antenna that picks up voices. Scary thing was; I could actually hold entire conversations with those voices! I'm not sure if schizophrenics experience it the same way because for me it felt as 'normal' as holding an imaginary telephone conversation. And it's always paired with a sudden bout of tinnitus. It started right after i got a rootcanal. Years later, I went into therapy after a burnout. Whenever I caught therapists lying to me: they'd 'threaten' me with a schizophrenia diagnosis. When I told them:"Well if that's what you think; shouldn't I get treatment for it?" And then they'd answer:"what? Did I say that? Ofcourse you're not schizophrenic! Why would you think that?". If I pressed on; they would shout and scream. Very intimidating when it comes from your caregiver or close relations. Anyway, years and years of strange occurrences, manipulation, isolation and blatant psychological torture made me think I had some electronic device put in my molar. That there is some big conspiracy going on around me. Some people are born 'crazy', some become crazy after years of systemic torture.
