Exactly. It seems to make it more personal when they show their names, ages and families. The age especially gets me because you think of relatives you might or do have that are that age and realize how horrible it would be to lose them. It's an honor knowing men like these men who gave their lives. Rip to these brave heroes.

John Barnes I saw this at the movies. there was not an empty seat . When the credits were over , not a single person. made a sound . nobody moved ... there was pure silence for nearly 10 minutes . every single person had tears... @@ms.artichokecheesepizzawst3239 I remember when I saw it at the theater-same reaction as you describe. Nobody moved and when they did begin filing out of the theater, it was a somber, funereal experience. This is one of those movies that you can only watch once. I'm glad I saw it, but I could never sit through it again. Watching this video to hear the way Peter Gabriel did this cover of "Heroes" and seeing the photos are enough for me. I saw Peter Gabriel in NYC at Radio City Music Hall with a 94 (96?) piece orchestra open the show with this. No one knew what it was until about a minute into it. It was beautiful. His voice and the orchestra accompanying him. The Peter Gabriel show that I didn't know I needed to see.

I was in the audience for the premiere of Lone Survivor in December 2013 in New York. Marcus Luttrell, Mohammad Gulab, the cast, and a great number of family and friends of the fallen SEALs were present. It was a moving, if not life-changing, experience watching this montage with the relatives of the deceased weeping all around. I'll never forget it. Edit: A lot of people keep commenting that it couldn't have been him because he's never seen the movie. Just because one speaks before the movie doesn't mean they stay for the screening. Pretty common practice in the film industry to not sit through your own movie.

holy fuck I cry every time I see this part. Like a giant baby! I remember the damn ramp ceremony for some of these guys when their bodies came through the base on their way back, had no idea who it was for until a while after. I used to cry during every ramp ceremony (where they would carry them, flag-draped, off the plane - we did security for the ceremonies, stopping all vehicles and everything in the area out if respect). their bodies came through the morgue I used to guard too. had no clue until years later when I put the dates together and looked some stuff up to be sure. still makes me feel weird how I was so sad and crying but didn't even know who they were when they would come off the planes, they were all strangers to me... then I learn about all this stuff later and it kinda tripped me out. don't know why it upsets me so much. well, I guess I do, but still.

kenneth mcgriff Human beings aren't fuckin hammers and nails bro. Even the Nazi's had a conscience sometimes. Even religious extremists have hearts sometimes. You can still respect and have empathy towards your fellow man without regarding them as what you think is their political affiliation or practical use as tools. The military has no say in politics, so no, educating yourself on foreign policy and politicians in general has nothing to do with supporting the men who fight. You can still support and respect and have empathy towards the men who sacrifice without agreeing with the semantics behind the war. That being said, the people we are actually fighting overseas are as savage and evil as they come. The US military is full of honorable men who give of themselves for their country.Whatever the political ramifications there are that come from nation building and invasion has nothing to do with the actual combat occupations in the military. Our men are sent to make the best of a bad situation, facing the purest of evil in todays world. All they do is face down people like ISIS and the Taliban, that's their only job.

I'd suggest a different audience, comprised of the hypocrites who stand at all the right times, who dutifully recite the pledge, who wear the flag lapel pins, who thump their chests and boast about projections of power, but who work every day to undermine what makes all of those actions matter; truth and honorable service. There are too many, far too many, who can make the token gestures, and attack those who don't; who can belittle the protestor of conscience though they have no conscience themselves, who will deride those who work and sacrifice for peace while they themselves carelessly cultivate conflict. They can do all these things because they hide behind a curtain of paper-mache patriotism, and people fall for it. What matters more, the veiled deceit of those who stand up because it's easy, or the dedication of those who make a stand, even the wrong stand, not caring that it's hard.

Mike Murphy has been my hero since 3rd grade, even without his presence the impact he has had on myself and thousands, millions of people is immeasurable. He, among many other serviceman, have inspired me to join the Navy. I was accepted to the Naval Academy this spring, but unfortunately underwent a knee injury following my acceptance of the appointment. However, Mike continues to inspire me--if he can push through the darkest of times to fight for his country, then at the very least I can have the patience to wait one more year until I am medically cleared. I read "Lone Survivor" back in 2008. It did enjoy it. I had to see the movie when it came out. Without going into specifics, I was somewhat disappointed by the movie. When this part came on, the theatre was silent. Nobody got up to leave. It was almost like people knew it would have been disrespectful to leave. All you heard was people in the audience crying softly. I was emotional myself. This sounds strange, but it made me feel good to hear people crying. I knew people appreciated their sacrifice like I me. I don't live far from where MIchael Murphy is from on Long Island, NY. He is revered here. A real hero.

My youngest son and I saw Long Survivor when it opened; it was a wintry Monday or Tuesday night, if I remember, but the place was packed. And when this part came on, the entire audience just sat, absolutely quiet - my son at the time was only about 9 but he was mesmerized by the story, and, thankfully, if patriotic. When this ended, there was another moment or two of absolute silence, and then people clapped, and as we all left, we felt like we were all together in something. (My kids think I hold the record for watching this movie, btw, but seriously, so well done.)

I sat in my car after the movie ended in tears and hold me face. The bravest, brightest, most honorable and devoted men/ warriors lives snuffed out like a light so soon. To all my brothers, your sacrifice to God and country will never be forgotten. We will keep your memories in our hearts and when we fight. I will use the rage and anger as fuel.
