Hey Johnny, thank you for your help out in the field the other day about saddle hunting. I have since purchased a helix saddle. I figured out a great way to move the bottom platform up faster for us guys with bad knees. I put a rope on all four corners and I am able to pull it up while pushing away from the tree with my feet.

Wow. I thought I was the only one that used this method. Lol. I've been doing it this way for three years, now. I've found that the Lone Wolf hand climber is the best platform for a tree saddle and basically one stick.

People don't understand this is for light weight hunting, climbing and efficiency, not speed or ease, this is for hunters going deep into the woods carrying the least amount of equipment on them. Guys just don't get it. B I've walked 2 miles back with a stand and sticks on my back. It's not fun and it'll take its toll on you.

Ingenuous! That is a great setup. You are shaving either climbing sticks or a platform. I have a Summit Goliath climber and the bottom is set up to work with your legs and a stirrup to pull it up after elevating the top climber. Very interesting solution you guys came up with! It looks the Kestrel isn't set up correctly: the leg straps should go around your legs, right? My other question is about the Kestrel sizing. I too am fitter and stronger than most yahoos. I lift a lot and play basketball. Waist is 36" and weigh 215 lbs. For pretty much 90% of jackets, shirts and sweat hoodies I wear size XL. How is that size 2 Kestrel? I ordered a Size 2 Kestrel but haven't received it yet.

The kestrel I was wearing is my buddies, the camera man. My cousin and I do not use leg straps at all. We cut them off. You will be happy with the size 2 with your build.

Is that the seat of a LW hand climber or the foot platform? Did you try both and does this method work with either? Seems like the foot platform would allow more foot room and ability to stand, but obviously with a weight penalty. Thoughts?
@johnnypalmer2574
5 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is the" hand" climber. It would work with any platform but in the saddle world, less is better. We don't "stand" much but we can on this easily. Most guys use smaller platforms then this when using climbing sticks to get up the tree. We don't need much. If you want more info on saddle hunting, check out G2 Outdoors. He covers pretty much everything saddle related on you tube.

I will defiantly need to use your style of climbing. Not very flexible. I have yet to purchase a saddle, however this is my plan, I have a LW hand climber I currently use that I will like to try and use. are there other climbing systems you use if you do not have a straight tree?

I did the mod.. but it seems like the hand climber wants to drop down trunk.. I tether it to saddle but as soon as i take any weight off it slides down.. any pointers of what I'm doing wrong..the angle is around 50 to 52 degrees.. seems if I have the base at a fairly steep angle on tree it's a little better.. but as soon as its level it drops easily....really want this to work.. its light, small, and is also the base to stand on..
@johnnypalmer2574

If you mean it slides down the tree when you take weight off to pull it up to you, just keep tension on the pull rope so it doesn't slide down.

We tried the tree lounge foot climber back in 2006. It climbed good but was to big and did not double as a flat platform once at hunting height. Lone wolf does.
@cdp50359

@@johnnypalmer2574 Not certain how come. The lounger was a better option imo. Especially while in the leaning position. This is true because of the ergonomic of the body position. The lounger will keep your feet 90° angle from your body achieving better comfort. In the sitting position all you need is a foot rest so it arrives that as well. I've seen the lw fold over on themselves that's why I stay away from them. But that's the perk of having a saddle, u only fall a couple inches.

@johnnypalmer2574
3 жыл бұрын
I personally don't use it on trees with limbs but some guys do. If I did it i would climb to the limb, hook up linesman belt, hook tether above limb, use a rope step, disconnect and reconnect lwhc above limb. I use beast sticks on trees with limbs. 99% of the time I know what tree I'm going so I know what to take.

I can climb 30' in 4 minutes. If your climbing a tree the correct "safe" way, you supposed to be tethered to the tree with your harness system. So a traditional climber has two metal pieces plus your tether to move up and down as you climb and descend. So you have three things to deal with. My method only has two. Also I use a saddle for comfort as tree stands hurt my back and are heavy and cumbersome.

I use a viper. It’s the most comfortable I ever sat in, but.....even at 19lbs you are carrying over 40lbs with clothes, gear, water, snack, crossbow etc. I hunt big swampy woods and the only access is your feet, so that shit gets heavy after a mile or so. And if I’m not seeing deer, I’m moving until I start seeing deer.
