David Tennant, who plays Crowley (obviously), was the 10th Doctor. Peter Davidson, who plays Job, was the 5th Doctor. His daughter, Georgia, played the Doctor's Daughter in the Dr Who episode of the same name. She married David who adopted her son, Ty, who plays Job's eldest (he has yet to play anything in Who, but I'm sure it'll happen eventually). Best family ever.

Crowley admitting that he's lonely because he's not evil like the other demons but not good enough to be an angel always just makes me so sad.

The worst part is that “not good enough to be an angel” means having critical thinking and questioning allowing harm and destruction to humans…

One of my favorite moments in this episode is when Crowley and Aziraphale see Job talking to God and Aziraphale says he doubts that Job is getting any answers, but Crowley is in of of Job just being allowed to ask God questions at all, since that is what got him cast out. It makes it even sweeter when later, he interacts with "Jim" and does his best to answer "Jim's" questions about things like gravity, because we can see how much being cast away for his curiosity and questions stuck with him, how he encourages that instead of punishing it when he can

The Job minisode is one of my favorites of the season. There's a marked difference between Crowley and Aziraphale's earlier meetings versus their meeting here: up until God destroyed most of humanity in the flood, Crowley was still fairly playful and friendly with Aziraphale. This is their first meeting since then, and Crowley appears to be completely disillusioned with everything by this point - antagonistic, despondent, a little angry. The way he talks to the goats is hilarious, but it says a lot about how he views God and how he feels about Her abandoning him. I love the way he tests Aziraphale here; he doesn't fully trust him, not after the angel still seemed to defend the indefensible the last time they met. But Aziraphale really rises to the occasion; he has faith in and insists upon Crowley's goodness when no one else has (not even God!) He snaps at Aziraphale now whenever the angel tells him he's kind or good, but the faith in him here really meant a great deal.

I've read some posts that suggest that the reason we see the Job story is to show us the early stages of. Aziraphale's moral development away from automatic obedience to Heaven and towards developing his own sense of right and wrong.

Yes, exactly my interpretation of why we see each and every mini-sode--they show the development of the characters (mostly Aziraphale's) and their relationship. Many reviewers criticized this season's content as disjointed and unconnected. But everything is building toward explaining why the two characters react differently in that final scene.

Those goats are so cute! Love the mini family reunion David has this episode with his FIL and son 😁 The book Gabriel uses as a fan is The colour of magic by the late sir Terry Pratchett, one of the authors of Good omens, and the book he reads that starts with "It was a good day" is Good omens itself. I'm really curious what the meta implications of this are in-universe? 🤔😅 The records in the jukebox all turning into the same thing is a reference to the book, where any tape left in the Bentley for more than 2 weeks turned into the Best of Queen, hence why there's so much Queen on the soundtrack 😅, which I don't remember being mentioned in s1. So, in s1 Crowley says he's had the car for 90 years without a scratch and Zira has had his license for 90 years just ~4 years later? 👀😅 Crowley is such a softy at heart, he'd never hurt those goats, I imagine he sees himself in them even, being cast out just for questioning heaven. He's also absolutely whipped, he was never going to win that argument over the car 😅 and Zira uses that to his full advantage, I'd imagine 😅 Slowly but surely making our way through the season, I'm excited to see the rest of your reactions 😁

I know this is very late but in regards to the book Good Omens being in the bookshop, iirc Neil said something about that to the effect of "Aziraphale hasn't read every book in his bookshop" and implied that would have made things interesting/different if he had (so basically, it's a question for fan writers to answer)

I think it's super telling, too, because Crowley set that whole scene up, waited for an angelic audience, and he got Aziraphale instead of somebody else. Aziraphale is the ONLY angel who could have seen through the birdie trick. No fucking way Michael or Gabriel knows what sound a crow makes.

Crowley was already questioning the goodness of heaven at their previous meeting, when they met at Noah's Ark. At that point he was all about not killing kids. He seems to have some sort of internal standards about his own behavior, so he has obviously been struggling with how demons are supposed to behave. Crowley does not feel like he fits in with hell and he was cast out of heaven. So he was already doing his own thing. At the ark, Azi was still saying that you had to trust heaven, that the plan was ineffable. But now, at the time of Job, Azi has had enough experience with humans to know how they feel about their kids. His concept of good/evil is starting to be influenced by the human point of view. In Season 1 we saw how he struggled with what was good from a human perspective and what was good from heaven's perspective. Ultimately he choose to go with the human perspective and save the world, but then seemed surprised when Crowley pointed out to him that he had effectively cut himself off from heaven. Now impulsively protecting Gabriel, Azi still has a lot to sort out about his relationship with heaven.

Its so weird seeing someone react to this episode without already knowing the story of Job because this is legitimately quite close to what actually happens in the bible (except Job doesn't get his kids back) Edit: It's one of the several hypocrisies God performs within the Bible (it isn't usually referenced though because the flood genocide was so much more impactful)
@JBU27

I personally talk about this all the time bc they told me this at church school (escuela dominical in Spanish) and I remember asking but why did God allow that to happen? And I was reprehended bc they were trying to paint this as a story of the love a kindness of God bc he later gives Job more kids and I was like but the first ones die?!? I didn’t had the words to explain at that age what this was so upsetting and I Can now say is because we are not fucking replaceable 🤬😤 I don’t understand how someone with one working brain cell can read or listen o Job’s story and think God is not worse than the devil since he supposedly loves Job and also he already knew job would not abandon him but he prefer to prove the devil wrong than to protect one of his “children”
@iesika7387
4 ай бұрын
@@JBU27 And the motivation for killing the kids wasn't just to take all his stuff, it was to prove Job loved god more than his own family. It commands people to put god before everything. Including, as Aziraphale learned here, their own innate moral sense and understanding of right and wrong.

In a later episode, someone says to Crowley, "You're a good lad" to which he responds, "I'm not, either actually, but thanks" (meaning he's not good or a lad)
