Father John's was a non-alcoholic cough medicine mixture, cod liver-based, reportedly tasting like licorice.

Nice finds on all the bottles and they cleaned up really nice. I love the cobalt blue bottles. I have a 4 prong digging tool on a long handle. That would allow you to dig back in deeper safely. I’m not sure what the proper name is but I’m sure you can find them at a lawn and garden store. Be safe out there !!!

Thanks! I'm totally happy with the finds we made! Jason's thoughts are a different story 😄! We do use a long handled rake as well as the hand held size, but this spot is situated on a steep incline where you have to dig back into the hill then clear out all of the dirt behind you, try and make a ledge to sit on, then hope there isn't a major collapse because the dirt is not completely stable this time of year. Then we keep repeating that process. The deep tunnel situation is not something we wind up messing with very often at all there thankfully! It's pretty tiring, but worth it! We each have each other's back as far as watching for an upper ledge to collapse.

I can just hear our great-great-grandparents watching this activity and saying, "What are you kids doing? That's dangerous with all that broken glass around! Leave that trash alone!"

LOL! I've thought the same thing while I'm pulling out an old glass shampoo bottle or mason jar.. I can hear my grandma saying " what in the world would you want that junk for?!" 😆

Near Elgin Illinois is Mooseheart Illinois and they had dairy cows. Maybe that was where the milk cake from to make the cottage cheese. Mooseheart also had their own trash dump down a ways from the barns toward the lake. 1913 era

I have been near Mooseheart a few times, and it intrigues me! I do know that it's gated/private community. Maybe someday we'll get permission to check it out!!
