On the long-distance bicycle tour that I did from Hong Kong to London in 2006, I went pretty slow. I had to keep vaguely on schedule, but the whole point was not to rush - the opposite really, to take time and enjoy it. When I was young, I'd done a degree in Chinese history, and I loved talking with people, and nosing around. I speak Chinese, so there I could communicate (fairly😕) easily.
I have heaps of photos, videos and audio files from the trip, and a diary in big pile of tatty notebooks. Editing the material is not easy, and of course everything is grainy and low resolution. But I am using what I have to put the story together as a series of films. Here (after a long pause!) is Episode 2. It has been lovely to look back on this trip actually. What freedom we had. How different China was in those days. This episode takes me as far as the city of Zhaoqing, in China's far southeastern corner. I hope you enjoy the film!
I'll try to speed up a bit making films about this long-distance ride... My idea is the episodes will be each 10 minutes long - kind of the length of a nice cup of tea ☕
