I have the Sirui ST-124. It really is an excellent tripod. Its light, folds down really small, It is very rigid and a really good working hight, without extending the centre column. (but if you do, it is still very steady, so no problem there.) The price is very competitive as well. Does the job, it was designed brilliantly. My D610 and 16-35mm set up is quite weighty but this tripod has no problem with it. Recomended.

It is a fantastic little tripod isn't it. I have a much bigger tripod as well ... and that stays at home most of the time, whereas the Sirui is always with me! Thanks for watching Mike 😁👍

Thanks again Mike, I am really enjoying the videos you are making on long exposure techniques, it is something I aim to practice when I next go to the beach. I did like the review of the product and how you blended it together. I have however got a fabulous tripod which I love, so some of the info washed over me a bit. Thanks again, looking forward to next weeks video.

Thanks very much Collette! The studio reviews seem really boring to me so I thought I'd do one on location so it was a shoot as well as a review. Great to hear you've already got a good tripod...I'm a huge tripod fan as they open up so many possibilities! 👍 As always, thanks for watching. 😁

No worries Mohamed, thank you for watching! I always think it is good to show what isn't working as well as what is working ... I almost learn more from seeing what doesn't work, so I'll always share that to help you learn instead of just showing the pretty pictures. Great video, Mike. I mean it is hard to keep up with the advanced technology terms like twisty things, bally things and bitey things, but I managed to get the gist of what you were saying. You are living in a beautiful place at the moment and I appreciate you sharing the location with us. The photos turned out great. Take care, my friend.

Haha!! I do believe that my technical prowess confused even the greatest minds of this world!! I may even have to do a breakdown video explaining it all!! 😆 Thanks dude!! It's a pretty cool place, but to get an idea of what it is really like, you need to sit in a sauna on max heat. 😆😆 We're back in Bangkok now, but I still have 3-4 more videos to come on location. I hope you and the family are well dude! 👍

I just about ready to pull the trigger on those 100mm ND filters. So much better will wide angle lenses. Looking at Nisi or Kase. Love the twisty metal bits on that tripod. That alone is worth the purchase.
@mikesphotography
2 жыл бұрын
They are really good ... and I was surprised that the Nisi system didn't give me any hard vignettes with the 15mm. I have a video coming out soon on 3 different filter systems (the 100mm square system, the screw on filter and the clip in filter that sits in-between the sensor and the lens). It was interesting putting them all through their paces and how different they all were to use. As always thanks for watching 😁👍

Another great video mate. I follow a lot of photography (especially landscape) KZitem channels and the standard formula is: loads of wanky B roll of them getting in their car, driving to a location, opening their camera bag, pulling the legs off their tripod and getting a banger (perfect shot). Your videos are far more real and useful (showing you experiment with different shots, showing the bad as well as the good, and explaining why some of them didn't really work). Keep up the good work. By the way, try putting your tripod on some old CDs to stop it sinking into the sand (but not any of your precious Foo Fighters ones).
@mikesphotography
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much!! I'm experimenting with these on location shoots so it's great to get some feedback. I know what you mean about some of the landscape videos...pretty broll and never a bad shot...the way I look at it is that you can learn more from the bad shots, so I'm trying to include them as well as the good shots...and show how I got to those better ones as well. The cd trick is great, just not when the waves are washing back and forth so much...I've lost a few in the past in some big waves! 😆 Never the foos though!! 😆😆 Thanks for watching 😁👍

Another Interesting and informative session. Thanks Mike. What are your thoughts on the new Sony A7 IV? I noticed you also have the Sony RX10. When do you use it? I have the Sony RX100 which has the same sized sensor and use it when going on excursions and not wanting to lug around the A7 III and lenses!
@mikesphotography
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Edward. The A7iv seems to be a good step up for video, but only a small step forward for photography. I'll be getting one as I need it to help film my videos for this channel, but if I was solely a photographer, I'd probably hold on to my A7iii until the 5th version came out. I use my RX10iii a lot when out and about...It's my lightweight telephoto alternative to a whole set of big lenses! Even though the sensor is small, it still produces some great images. In a few future videos I'll be using it to pick out details in big landscapes. If we go on really long hikes, it sometimes the only camera I have with me. Thanks for watching 😁👍

Smooth combo of tutorial and product review - tastefully done, Mike. First venue w/‘V” shaped shoreline waves was unique and could have yielded a super image - perhaps w/more patience, in-cam double exposure (one per side), or in-post image blending, IMO. How would you handle a shoreline pano w/wave motion? Had two “flip lock” tripods fail - both the same way (flip hinge broke, in storage, no less). Twist lock legs from now on. Tough guy Mike wades barefoot on beach, braves man-eating crabs and “bite-y” things, then goes home at sunrise. Am disillusioned 😁. Brown dog good at photo bombing.
@mikesphotography

Thanks very much Paul ... and good point ... I probably should have been more patient! 😆 The only problem with that part of the beach is that there a lot of people that come down to get a selfie...I tried coming here before and there were about 10 people all milling about on that spit, fully locked and loaded in selfie mode!! 🤦🏻 ... and when I was filming this bit, there were about 3 people behind the camera edging closer and closer to get a shot... That's a good point with clip lock tripod legs ... I've had a few break as well ... renders the tripod useless. Haha!! The bitey things are everywhere here!! Everything that moves wants to kill you!! 😆😆😆 To be fair, it was about 35 degrees in the sun, 80% humidity and I was sweating my tits off!! I was cooking!! 🤦🏻

From the sand spit at the start, the island was a little too far to the left to hide it, but maybe from further down the beach it would have worked...thanks for the tip, I'll have to try that next time I am down there. Thanks for watching 😁👍

Hey Alan, No worries, I don't have my affiliate links set up for all countries yet, that's actually on the list of things to do, to get everything centralised, to make it easier for you guys to click through to the products in your own country. But here's a list of what I have anyway. 👍 I have a few different ones: This wireless one is great, but needs lots of batteries, it's an intervalometer as well, so you can use it for timelapses, and it also has a timer on it for long exposures: www.amazon.com.au/Wireless-Remote-Commander-Shutter-Release/dp/B07TT1PZKW/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=a7iii+cable+release&qid=1636072312&sr=8-8 This one is good if you shoot video as well as stills: www.amazon.com.au/Control-Shutter-Release-Terminal-Replacement/dp/B00RTBWHGI/ref=sr_1_32?keywords=a7iii+cable+release&qid=1636072312&sr=8-32 And this last one is a basic one that has a lock hold on it, no batteries needed, but you do need a stopwatch or clock to time the longer exposures. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching 😁👍
