I am really excited for you to get this hive figured out. I feel like it would be a perfect solution for someone I know who is getting older and would like to raise bees. Less weight and bending over.

Wow! Lovely long hive! I would like it if you could talk about your take on putting in frames that are just the plastic with a wax coat vs EXTRA WAX coatings! time considerations, success considerations, etc - (seems they would like the extra wax on to start with esp if busy with a flow!) Maybe you already have and I haven't caught that video. Thanks for your work with the bees! I learn all the time when I watch you and other beekeepers. Blessings ✨💖✨

I'm very glad that you're learning by watching our videos as well as others. We have added wax in some cases but mostly just pre-waxed foundation. We have very good success with it. Thank you for watching

Out East of Fayetteville, AR. Built a long hive, installed nuc about a month ago. So far so good. Had some old good comb from a hive last year I put in frames with rubber bands. Tried feeding to help with comb build but they wouldn’t take it figure due the incoming nectar. I appreciate your videos and others, maybe one day I can do some.

Good evening all this is Jessie from Southeast Alabama and we have just started this year with keeping bees. We have 3 of the long hives like yours that we built and decided to do these because my back is trash and my wife is a small woman. Just trying to make it easy and fun. So for our first swarm we caught at our daughters house back in March and installed are doing great. That hive has a queen that is laying great. Our second is a little iffy but I think with time they will do good as well. This was a small swarm we caught here on our farm from a bee tree we know that has been here at least 6 years. I just need another swarm for the third hive. I don't think the second hive is due to the box itself but maybe I am overthinking everything. My wife tells me daily that I am good at that. I wish you the best of luck and God's blessings.

Is there any way to put a robber screen on a long hive? I was thinking of making some this winter and installing in the spring

John, looks good. I actually just installed a swarm into my long hive yesterday evening. This is my second go around. The first one went great, low mite count, came through the winter good and healthy, then for whatever reason, they just packed up and absconded. At the end of winter. Craziest thing that I ever saw. So, I am trying it again, I like the concept of the long hive, very easy to work. Good luck buddy, hope it goes well, keep us updated. I am still thinking about an Anel, I might be hollering at ya soon.

I got two 5 frame nucs this spring. At first I put them into 8 frame deep boxes and they exploded even though they had to draw out medium frames to match the deeps, I usually only run mediums so it was all I had on hand. At 10 days in the boxes were bursting at the seams so both hives got a medium super. At 15 days in both hives got another medium box full of new plastic frames. When I went in around the 3 week point to look for swarm cells I only found one in one of my hives but had a heck of a time putting the hive back together without squishing tons of bees. How have you kept your bee population as low as it looks in this video?

Any idea why they didnt stay the first two times? I'm just getting ready to transfer my first hive into a long hive we built ourselves. Makes me worry a little bit. Its my first hive and I Don't want to lose them. 🤞🏼

I've not been seeing good draw outs on plastic foundation on alot of videos. I've always been foundation free and get perfect draw outs. I only run mediums though even in my long hive which I made from deep boxes. Deeps are just too heavy for me. He did you have the hive on one side of the long hive requiring you to walk around for every frame. I set mine at one end for transfer. I have 2 more long hives in the making in my livingroom. Professional beekeeper?

I'm not a bee keeper so I either missed it or am just dumb. Why did you not put the half frames in this hive?
@jackgoral8482

One could put those medium frames behind a follower board and the bees would go to the brood nest by themself. Shaking them out was IMO a waste of time.
