Long Island is located about 20 minutes from Shute Harbour (Mainland Australia) heading south east. It has 3 accommodation resorts but only 2 currently operate, with Long Island Resort closed due to cyclone damage a few years ago.
The Boss and I (and a couple of mates) stayed at the Palm Bay Resort, located about mid island and on the west coast. It advertises itself as a 4 star resort (I suspect self rated) allowing self catering (food).
There are a few nice walks, north and south of the resort but if it is a little steamy take plenty of water.
The water activities (free or near free) consisted of snorkeling and kayaking. The kayaks are quite dated and need of replacement. On our visit the tides were quite large and the water visibility was next to very poor (terrible). From what we could learn from the staff the snorkeling was not terrific in any event.
The resort pool is located centrally and has a pleasant aspect, though the surround sandstone tiles are showing their age. The kitchen available to guests is well stocked.
We were less than impressed with the meals on offer, I'll leave it there suffice I will repeat the Boss's comment - thank goodness we could self cater. Drink prices were not too steep.
The water taxi cost to the resort (return) was a bit steep and not part of the resort costs.
The 4 of us generally thought 3 nights was more than adequate but at a pinch you could extend a night.
The Boss says she does not need to go back ... a rarety ......
This vid, in any event, mostly is about the walk we did north of the Resort. There is a little bit of other content on and off island.
My next vid is likely going to be about 1 of 2 things:
1. Preparation for our next trip; or
2. How to replace and upgrade the bed head lights from halogen to led on older model Ultimate Campers.
