Hallo, I am from Germany and I really love this game. But sorry your horses will run in the wrong direction. Put them on the white Startline und turn them to 180 degrees. You will start on the yellow area and finish on the red area. I hope you understand what I mean.

I’m afraid I don’t, sorry!

I’m pretty sure he is saying, turn the horses around and go the other way, in a clockwise direction. Which makes sense to me considering how ‘start’ is orientated on the board. Facing the word start the way he is describing would make it read correctly.

Like this game. Can’t find it anywhere. I’m a big fan of horse racing games. I’ve got this, Winners Circle and Turf Master on my list. They’re all tough to find on the second hand market. I believe Turf Master to be the very best horse racing game ever made. Especially with a high player count. I’d put winners circle in the 2 spot and this 3rd. Thanks for covering it. I’d be interested to hear what your favourite GMT game is? Cheers.

I really like Winner's Circle, and I'm surprised if it's crazy hard to find. The Face 2 Face edition was expensive for a while but I'd expect its value to have dropped when DiceTree put out their deluxe version. Royal Turf is a fine edition too. I haven't played TurfMaster in probably over 12 years and remember almost nothing about it, but I have it now and look forward to returning to it. As for GMT Games... I'm not much of a wargamer, but I love it when they try things a little lighter or less wargame-y, and support them when they do. I love C&C:Napoleonics (but don't care for C&C: Ancients), and I love Thunder Alley (but don't care for its sequel Grand Prix). Battle Line is great, but not exactly typical GMT, heh. I've played and liked Combat Commander: Europe and Sekigahara, but they're not for me. 1960, which is now GMT, is really good. I'd love to try Space Empires and Bayonets & Tomahawks, and I backed Rebel Fury on their P500. Cheers!

@@BoardGems thanks for the reply. I’m going to check out a few of the ones you mentioned. I’m trying to introduce a few lighter war games to my wife. I was looking at Polis: fight for the Hegemony. Seems like it’s got a lot of moving parts but 2 player so it not too much to swallow and you don’t need to scale it for 2. The reason I asked you about the GMT games was the Napoleonics I saw in the background in your vids. Very interested in those. As far as the the horse racing games goes, I missed my chance to pick up a deluxe copy of Turf Master about a year ago and although they will make one for you on order, they’re made in Italy and cost a small fortune to ship. Winners Circle has been almost as elusive as Ginkgopolis but at least I can find the latter in a new reprint now. If you ever want to move Turf Master, I’m your guy. Be well.

Gotcha. I'm interested in lighter wargames too. That's why I backed Rebel Fury; have a look when it comes out. I also acquired Fort Sumter but haven't played it. I forgot to mention Manoeuvre, too, which is on the P500 again. And, depending on what theme and setting she likes, maybe 1960 would go over well, though it's not a wargame. C&C Napoleonics is a heavier C&C game but it's a bit more intuitive than Ancients IMO; still, there are other lighter C&C games out there. Cheers!

Winner's Circle is going to be reprinted in 2022 by DiceTree Games. You should be able to at least get it then.

If I have both games, do you think there is merit in removing horses 9 and 10 and using the dice that come with the dice game? The new die is 1,2,2,2,3,3. That should speed the game up a lot but it would reduce the excitement of that 3 burst since the die goes from 7 total movement possibility to 13. Combine that with 2 less horses and it might be too fast?

A great question that I don't feel qualified to answer! I haven't played the dice game, and based on comments from friends on BGG I'm not in a rush to. Try it and report back!

Fun game, not difficult to play but hard to win. Together with Turfmaster - these two games are played in our annual championship together with Thunder Alley, 1500m, Flamme Rouge, Ski Tour Biathlon and others.

I love Thunder Alley! And I own Turfmaster and Flamme Rouge but haven't had a chance to play them. A racing championship is great; my group did a season of Formula Dé that is still talked about years later! We'll probably never do it again but it created a lot of great memories.
