Hi. Nice video. About the shapeshifter.. If your shapeshifter is not responding as expected. There is a good chance the bushing inside the the shifter is nog settled well. In that case release the pressure and manually actuate the shifter by pulling/ pushing your saddle combined using shifter remote. It lets the bushing settle. If you notice that the movement goes a bit grainy put some silicone based vaseline on the shifters cylinder. Redo the procedure again for several time and you will see that the shifter will operate more smoothly while riding. Maintain lubrication periodly and the performance of your shifter will improve very well

Thanks for taking us along for the ride, beautiful location. I have to agree with the other comments on the shapeshifter, I had to add some air to mine after I got it from Canyon but mine works just like you said "Like a dropper post". When I shift to DH mode I can feel it drop down and when I switch to climb mode, stand up and peddle, it just goes right up to green.

You bet, it truly is amazing how beautiful nature can be when you get out and ride. And you are absolutely right, if you switch the modes and force the bike into the desired position, the shapeshifter does work, I just wish it didn’t take as much concentrated effort to do so.

Cole! Thanks for the sub and the kind comments about the video, glad you enjoyed, stay tuned with the channel, if you saw my latest video you will see that I recently picked up a YT Jeffsy Pro, the plan is to over-fork it at 160mm travel to do a direct comp to the Canyon Strive. Stay safe!

Josh, thanks for the advice! I ended up selling the Canyon Strive for a different rig. Loved the idea of the ShapeShifter, but just couldn’t get along with it. Happy riding!

Sweet ride, I hope I make it to Park City some day. You should see if Canyon will warranty your Shapeshifter unit, I have no problem switching modes so far on my 2020 8.0 Strive. I run around 150psi in my unit

Thanks! Its a very pretty ride, and i dont have issues with the shapeshifter actually working, it actually works great. My issue with it is that i kinda expected it to be like a dropper post, quick and snappy in changing positions, however, it seems to be a bit sluggish and doesnt work all the time unless i really bounce on the bike to get the stanchion in or try to not have any weight on the bike to get it back out. For me, i think that the ShapeShifter tech is pretty slick, however, I prefer something similar to what Scott does by just having a button to switch between trail and fully open on the shock.

A lot of issues with the shapeshifter can be fixed with either treating the cable or just changing the cable. Give the lever a good clean too.

I got a Strive about 4 months ago. I do like it a lot. It's more than I need for most of my local trails but still enjoyed it. I was riding a Santa Cruz AL bike with 130/120/ I'm 5'11" the same as you. Mine is still all stock. It's a little big but I believe the medium would have been too small. I use mine mainly in trail mode on most trails. My Shape shifter works fairly clean. Do you have the weight set as the same as the rear shock.

Wes thanks for the reply! Great to know that you are enjoying your strive. I did have my shapeshifter set up to the correct pressure, just didn’t love how it felt all the time. Overall great bike though!

Hello sir. Thank you for the big help of this review, i was confuse right now, can you help me what is better bike for trail? 1. Jeffsy Core2 2021, 2. Canyon strive CF7, 3. Canyon Spectral 6. Thank you again for your help Ride Safe.

Hopefully i can provide some insight! I’ve owned the Jeffsy and the Strive (2019), personally it depends on your riding style, 150mm of travel should be plenty for most trails. The Jeffsy is a great bike, but I’ve found that it sides down similar to that of a Yeti (not super forgiving) so if you are not a technical rider, you will not appreciate the Jeffsy. The Core2 is a great spec for the price. The Strive CF7 that was just released is now a 170mm front travel pushing this bike into the Enduro category, i loved how the Strive went down the hill, but going up was a bit challenging. The new Spectral 6 is more closely related to the YT in terms of travel and i would imagine that the two would be very similar riding bikes. Since I haven’t ridden the Spectral, i cant speak to up or downhill performance. Honestly, i think i would go with either the Jeffsy or the Spectral, leave the Strive out of the mix as a “trail” bike.

Very knowledgeable, feels like I’m riding with a tour guide! Would you recommend the bike for rough chunky terrain and pea gravel?

Thanks for the comment! Glad you liked the video, i would absolutely recommend this bike for chunky terrain, its amazing in that stuff, for pea gravel, its alright, it bobs quite a bit, so you would have to reach down and use the lock-out quite a bit.

Bon ride ;)

My Shape shifter on my Strive 8.0 responds really quickly, my only problem with my Strive 8.0 is he exploding hubs and had them replace once under warranty, but the are ready to explode again. BTW will be riding that Wasatch Crest on August 20 except I will riding a Ibis Ripley from Salt Cycle.

Ron, thanks for your comments! I haven’t had any issues with my hubs so that’s good to know. And have fun in a couple of days! Let me know how the Ripley rides as that is an awesome place to test the bike. I’m assuming it’s the 2020 model right?
@RonTamondong

Cool Bike Vid Bro The Ripley is great bike, but the descents as more epic then the climbs. I came into Wasatch pretty much blind except watching a few KZitem videos. The Strive descending attributes are3 notches above Ripley. The Strive gives better confidence in fast chunky stuff. Also it’s easier to jump the Strive and you feel more center. If your riding new trails I would pick the Strive for that reason. Also the climbing on Strive is not that bad at all. If going for Strava times on climbs get the Ripley. For me to get the full benefits of the Ripley I have to be really good shape.

So you can’t change modes on the bike??? Are you sure there’s no issues with The Shapeshifter? The Enduro teams switch modes on the fly.

Great thoughts Nickolas. It is possible to switch the geo on the bike, but you have to make dramatic movements to do it. I've found it especially difficult when I want to get in the Climb mode that the shapeshifter doesnt fully want to expand unless i dont have weight on the bike, etc.... I've never had an issue with my shapeshifter, but i wish that it was a bit more reliable and quick. Overall great bike though!

Cool Bike Vid Bro actually talking about how the bike rides is a plus. 90% of the bike mag one was three guys whining about the shapeshifter and one saying that it rides well in the last minute.

Owen, I think that a medium could also work for you, it will likely feel a little small, but you could throw a longer stem on it and push the seat back a bit. I’m interested to know what you think about it! I’m sure it’s going to be incredibly fun!!!

So little comment to the review of the bike. I am riding the canyon strive too and I have to say that is not really slack specially if you look to the numbers, but this is a personal perception. And to the point of the shapeshifter, it should be really easy you change the modes. So when I want to go in xc mode I just have to stand up and pedal or have to realese pressure from the back wheel. And if I want to go in the dh mode I just need to press the button and preload the suspension. So maby you have not enough cable tension or your pressure in the shapeshifter is too low. In the xc mode you need to have the same pressure like in your shock. #alittlebitlongerthaniexpected
