HIS lyrics that HE WRITES are some of the most meaningful lyrics in the history of music and even if someone encouraged him to switch his style to his current style, they sho

It is rare to see someone as yourself posting as you have, especially when 99.9 % of the people are never going to put their pride aside, and see things for what they are from a bird's eye, not just front row. listening to their newer material, namely because it is so raw and honest and by hearing that in the music you can easily tell that they are writing and performing from their hearts, and by doing that you cant say that they have sold out, or that they've only done "what needed to be done in order to remain united as a band" or that they just became successful because "they chose to give the masses that they wanted to hear". obviously if they didn't mean what they were writing, than not as

I don't understand the hate. They used to be young and crazy, and made fun music. But as they got older they wanted to sing about real things, and a lot of that came from life experience. Their new album (SFTROU) discussed some harsh topics and they wanted their message heard. In the words of Johnny that album was "commercial suicide". So no way in hell are the Goo's "sell-outs". THEY'RE STILL FUCKING AWESOME.

i agree with you skiliznki, personally, i prefer their older material just because i prefer that type of music to some of their newer material, but that does not mean their newer material is bad, on the contrary, the songwriting is undeniably better and although they are making different music now, i believe like you that it is because they have grown up and matured, and so they aren't necessarily going to make the same type of music they made over 20 years ago. i still enjoy

John tweeted several months ago, that the music executives dictated the direction of the last 3 albums, so it is not entirely the band's fault for the boring, forgetable material. Who cares how much work they put in to an album? It is just not impressive, and plain disgusting. Their best work is representative of minimal studio time/polish. Just 3 guys, a kick ass marshall amp and a simple buffalo studio. John has subtly attempted to explain on twitter and in interviews, that he feels trapped.

People are really saying that they sold out with 'Name' or 'Iris'? Fuck's sake, guys. That's like saying that Guns N' Roses sold out with Sweet Child 'o Mine just because it was a hit. One thing i would like to know from the people that dont like the goo goo dolls after "Selling Out" is, if they hadn't "sold out" would you like there music, because if you only dislike them just because they are big is bullshit reason. They write great music, whether its the 80s, the 90s, or today.
