I particularly enjoyed this video. I quite like the Messer, and I always enjoy seeing good Messer use. Your Messer use was a lot more like what I read in the treatises than usual. Good binds, winds, and grapples. A lot of videos of Messer sparring I see use it more like a short saber, but you used it like a Messer. Probably my favorite video of yours in some time.

Love these so much for inspiration when writing sword fights. Hope your shoulder gets fixed eventually. 7:44 His attacker took a lunging step against him, throwing a low cut at his belly, right to left. Had S. not stepped out of reach in time he might have watched his entrails slide upon the floor. That would have been his end, but there was no time to contemplate such things. Quick as a cat he brought down his own blade in a savage slash. The crunch of bone and tendon rewarded him when the blade bit into his opponent's arm. 'Like a butcher with a cleaver,' his master had always said, not unkindly. Hand, wrist and blade all tumbled to the floor. His opponent gave a wince. 'End it,' his eyes were saying. The sight of him turned S.'s stomach so much that he had to look and reconfirm that his guts were still inside him. "Kill me!" the one-armed man demanded. S.'s head was spinning. "You know, that's my favourite cut," he heard himself say. "Evade first, then follow up with a quick slash to the arm." It was grotesque.

I know I will get fencing is shit kind of replies, but as an ex sabre fencer I really like the footwork and posture, however there is no disadvantage in keeping the blade always in front of you, and also aiming for the wrist, since the tip of the sabre is fast, and a swing of a sword is still fast but a bit open and exposed, and in historical context, I think it makes a lot of sense to disable someone by cutting his arm, at a safe distance, you dont stand much chance at penetrating armor anyways. Also lounge can be really useful too to catch a tired, overconfident or lazy foe off guard. Love these videos, cheers!

I like the long handle of the Messer in this one, it's why I belive Thai and South East Asian in general developed long grip on the dha, to be able to parry those sorts of cuts, as well as allow passive defence when dual wielding which is probably the region were it is the most commonly done.

Nice see you are still sparring. Sometimes where I train we have this kind of situations and I love to maintain distance and when I don't dive in with this difference in reach I try to go for counter attacks, basic but strong parries (if possible), binding or feint attacks, all more in the deceiving side of things, trying always to push the opponent to strike where I want him to strike, I don't think is necessarily the best tactic, but sometimes it helps and makes you try different things (I use it to experiment mostly)

Man I would absolutely love to spar in this room with you guys. My friends and I spar near every weekend, albeit in a crude manner with cold steel trainers that admittedly are quite dangerous, but still very fun. We haphazardly go about replicating some of the techniques featured in your videos just to see if we can! I'm sure we butcher the form on near every move, though. Just wanted to say thanks for making great content and for continuing to inspire us to bludgeon each others BONES! BATTLE BROS FOR LIFE

Very nicely done Skall. Opinions vary but I've always been of the stance that Sabers are aggressive weapons. Gotta get in there and use the momentum of the swing to cut deep and get an efficient kill. I realize this is more contact sport than combat, but I believe it still applies.
