Don't pay any attention to the negative comments ... you did an amazing job in explaining this and mine turned out great. One thing I wanted to mention and that was how to determine the length of the long tail. My project called for 225 cast on stitches and I found it a lot easier to determine the length I needed by doing the math calculations which were easy to do. I found a tutorial for this on the internet. Thanks again for the great tutorial!
@sheepandstitch
6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for your kind words! Figuring out the length of the tail can be tricky. One trick you can try is to wrap the yarn around the needle the same number of times as the stitches you need. For example, if you need 225 cast on stitches, wrap the yarn around the needle 225 times. That length will be long enough to cast on 225 stitches. This trick works pretty well if you need to cast on less than 50 stitches. However, for more than 50 stitches, I find that this method gives you waaaay too much yarn tail. For your situation, I would cast on 20 stitches, undo the cast on, measure the length of yarn it took to cast on 20 stitches, and then multiply that length of yarn by 11 (20 sts x 11 = 220 sts). Then add a few more inches for those last five stitches. Hope that makes sense!

@andreaharris5730
5 жыл бұрын
@@StellaMaris0 - I just took a gamble and didn't measure out the amount of yarn based on her folding the yarn method. I thought it would work out exactly if I did it that way (her theory is definitely sound!) But I needed to cast on 100 stitches so I wrapped my yarn around my needle 10 times and then measured out that amount as if I only needed to cast on 50 stitches. It ended up working out perfectly. I think we end up with so much left because we use both the long tail and the working yarn that is attached to our ball.

Video takes forever to get to the actual casting on and then it goes too fast.

I am new to knitting & found this demo clearly shows the steps to take. The last step, getting the right hole was tricky until I watched this video. Thank you! 😊

Thank you so much! You are an absolute lifesaver! I was using the Boye " I Taught Myself Knitting" book, and I understood everything (mostly) up until the "put it back through the loop" part. Illustrations are terrible. Actually I've had a hard time learning to crochet too -- for one reason. I can't seem to keep track of my yarn. Which is a huge reason I like this video. Unlike other videos I've seen, you make it simple and easy to understand what is happening with the yarn and needle. Seriously, I was ready to pop a blood vessel. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
