Many Pasadena locals consider the Arroyo Seco to begin there but it begins above Switzer Falls. The Gabrieleno Trail (and the Angeles Crest Highway a little further away) parallels the Arroyo Seco most of the way up (down) but the trail takes a temporary detour due to the canyon being too narrow. Most of the hike up the Gabrieleno Trail is easy but there is a steep part when the trail passes the Brown Mountain Dam and then the final part going up to Switzer Falls is steep. I am not sure but the Arroyo Seco might go up past Red Box (the turnout from the Angeles Crest Highway for going to Mount Wilson).
