Great tips Mariana, thank you. I'm a veteran of working from home (24 years) in the legal and accounting professions. My 'uniform' for working from home is tailored but comfortable trousers, a cotton or silk shirt in a strong colour, or cashmere or cotton sweater. Never ever white or cream particularly on camera, it always looks dull and washed out. Always discreet earrings or necklace to bring attention into the face. Light makeup but definitely something to even out skin tone on camera, and always clean and tidy hair. I actually spend more on haircuts since working from home than I did previously. Well-presented but not the full dress-up. Somehow dressing properly also puts me in the right head-space for work even if I'm not meeting anyone on camera. I don't actually own 'home clothes' or sweats - as a part-time traditional tailor, I can create clothes - even suits - that are as comfortable as pyjamas. You never know when you're going to be interrupted in a meeting and have to stand up on camera, you don't want people getting a glimpse of scruffy bottoms.

I love your final reflections on not overdoing it - I struggle with this because when I dress better I really do stand out from others (the norm has become ultra casual here so it doesn’t take much to stick out) and I find it isn’t ideal for building connections though I feel better being more polished. Would be interesting to hear more of your thoughts on this - I think Princess Kate is a great role model, she can dress down in jeans and a sweater but still look elevated and poised. Next video?! Example outfits??

Wow thank you so much for reading my comment and making this video! The pants advice was great, I never really realized it, but you're right, I use my lounge pants as an excuse to stay in the house all day, so the "elevated elastic waist" pants are on my wishlist 😂 Also the lighting tip, thats is probably half the reason I don't feel put together on my Zoom calls even when I've made a considerable effort. Great work as always!

Let me present to you my situation. I work from home almost 100% and go to the office on rare occasion. And 4 times a week I take a break at 12 to go to the gym (which is in my street). So, I don not „dress up“ as I am going to sweat in the gym anyway. And most of my meetings happens in the morning when I am „ready for gym“. I can’t move my gym schedule as I am picking up the kid from kindergarten at 5 and later have family activities. I do dress up in nice shirts and have hair pinned back but no makeup. Any advice?

Ok, first of all can I just say how awesome it is that you can fit so much into your day, from self-care to family time? Well done! Now to the advice (and this is what I would do personally, so take it with a grain of salt): I think the nice shirts and hair pulled back are already super effective. However, as I look completely dead without any makeup on, I would still do something quick and easy that I could reapply after the gym, like bronzer, cream blush, curl lashes, bb cream, etc. Something I also used to do when I went to the gym (eons ago 😂) was to wear my gym clothes only to exercise. It might seem like a waste, but for me it made an impact. It took me less to change into and out of them than to decipher the enigma of what top could be paired with leggings without looking weird or making me feel self-conscious. But it all depends on what makes sense for you!
