Trena, if I did not see you recreate the other arm to the chair, I never would have known it was a replacement. The skill and patience to do such a marvelous job is incredible. I look forward to more videos Keep up the good work.

Good job on the video editing while you were carving. Music was engaging and the cuts were properly placed in my opinion. Enough to see what you're doing and how are you doing it and moving on to the next technique.

Never a doubt it would turn out great. lol - had me confused for a moment when you made the new one darker - didn't realize you were going to strip the other. Hate when they discontinue a good color - Special Walnut was very useful. Burnt Umber toner was pefect touch to give it the proper patina. FYI: To do rough carving, I used a Dremel plugged through a sewing machine foot controller. With workpiece clamped, you can control Dremel with both hands. Dremel may even have their own foot switch now, but the sewing machine controller gives you nice variable speed. Cheers

Great restore. I had to do some repair work of some chairs that were thrown out because a dog chewed them. I did dowels for the stretchers below the seats and the harp design on the back . It took me a few days for all the work. It isn't perfect but almost can't see the difference of the original wood but is noticeable. The only tools I used was my hands and sandpaper to do the dowel stretchers to fit in the legs. The only power tool I used was a jigsaw to do the harp on the back . That was over 10 years ago. I do have pix but are not available. That dog who chewed the chairs had separation anxiety.

Trena~ WOW Cheers to you! I BOUGHT YOU A FEW CUPS OF COFFEE to say "Thank you" for walking us through your process of carving out a replica of this arm rest. I own a handful of antique pieces with various hand carvings on them. You've inspired me to get some soft wood and practice what I learned from you, just for fun! You are such a gifted teacher Trena! By the way, since Varathane doesn't make that gel stain anymore, have you ever tried General Finishes Gel Stains? General Finishes has a great color variety colors of gel stain and the product itself is fantastic. I think you'll be able to find a good replacement for your discontinued Varathane product. Kudos on the Skillshare Sponsorship! I know it takes a lot of time to create these videos, while singlehandedly running a busy furniture repair business! You've earned the support! ~~Christy~~
