I am half Italian half Persian and have traveled all over Iran and Europe. Let me tell you this, if you were somewhat disappointed with the friendliest, kindest, most generous and loving nature of Iranian people then nothing in the universe will meet your expectations. Italians in Europe are famous for their warmness and hospitality but when I compare it to Iranian culture, we are like Nazies compare to the sweet Iranians.

I'm curious what would happen to an Iranian who's traveling in EU. If an accident happens, if polices see him and realize he's from Iran, if he does something unusual (sleeping close to a road), if he needs food or a place to stay. WTF is wrong with u? Have ever seen a middle eastern in an airport? have u seen how officers check him and his passport and try to make something up to bother him/her? ONLY ONE TIME AN IRANIAN POLICE CHECKED YOUR PASSPORT and you were freaking out. When came back to EU, ask a middle eastern (who even lives in ur country, not a tourist) how many times he's been harassed by people and police. Yes girl. You have to see your culture(anti-European culture) first, then compare it with other cultures.

Heyyyyy ....... Kid ..... Nice to see you safe. One powerful variable which you must take into account is that traveling does take its tow on human brain and body, and you can't keep alert, no matter what. Especially on a trusty motorcycle. But I find you very interesting due to points of references which have developed. One other important variable to consider is that Iran has been under sanction by the world. That does affect the feelings of Iranians in general. One other important point to consider is Iranian culture has passed the test of time. It has survived many centuries, and one has to develop the insight to respect such pattern which has developed in nature. For example, all animals are patterns which have developed in nature. I am very sorry about your crash, but I remember early that day the little girls were painting your nails, and the whole family came out and saw you departing. I think your crash was as a result of having your guards down. I don't expect that you relate to this point unless you can recall your exact feeling at that time. I am very sorry about your knife, the son of a gun must have justified charging you to attempt to fix your motorcycle .... lol ... Just kidding.Take advantage by having to stay inside, charge up, evaluate your plans for the rest of your trip. I am proud of Netherland to develop humans like you and your parents.Let's see you smiling and laughing back on the road.

Iran is just another country with lots of goods and some bad things, just like your country. I was in Netherlands in August and saw some unpleasant acts and habits, but I take is as is and look at the big picture. People drinking like crazy in Soccer stadium and then throwing half filled beer cups onto people in lower level, keeping the visiting soccer teams fans in a cage so that fights don't brake out, smoking of all kinds profusely in stadiums, restaurants, and other places you name it, urinals in public where you can urinate in front of others, graffiti everywhere including on trains, no sanitary food handling concept(the cashier also prepares your food, no gloves and no washing hands!), people having no regard for other people standing in line and cutting you off( I saw this first hand in a fast food place) I can go on and on, but you get my drift. But at the end of the day, I still like Netherlands. I admire you for your sense of adventurism. So, chill out and look at the country as a whole.

Hey Nora. Your videos on Iran are very necessary to give a balanced image of Iran. I'm gathering tourists' vids to make a useful summary about cultural differences, expectations one can or cannot have, dos and more importantly donts, etc. Your videos will help add some important dots for tourists going to Iran. I personally think your overall plan for iran was not very good tbh and you were also a bit unlucky. There is a lot that i can say about your experience but i prefer to put it on a video. Its because you're an average looking woman. A tall dark handsome rich brown middle-eastern male are treated better than other middle-eastern men in white countries. Studies show women in their 20's who are attractive get paid more then men and older women. Taller younger males have more opportunities when it comes to modeling and professional sport franchises. People with college degree are more likely to be hired by employers. Everything has to do with human evolution.

dude stfup, stop putting all Iranian men in the same category just cause a few were assholes in Nora's journey through Iran ffs. and also Nora is having a better time in Pakistan because she has police escort and them helping her out with her destination, local culture, language etc... If she had actually taken someone who spoke the language in Iran and knew their way around Iran, plus knew it's culture she would have a great time as well. furthermore I'm guessing bad luck played into her trip. how is it possible that all these people who go to Iran speak amazingly about it and have a great time, most women and men alike yet she has a bad time? btw, I'm guessing the crash left her a lil traumatized and kinda created a bias towards Iran, so from the beginning she was gonna view her Iran trip in more of a negative view no matter what.

Nora, thanks for visiting Iran. I wish you have had visited northern (Caspian sea shores) and north western (turkish part, my home town area) part of Iran too. I agree somewhat with you that it would be better not to travel as a single woman with a motorcycle in Iran or most middle eastern or Asian countries, but I believe, Iran is much more safer for women compared to other neighboring countries. I was pissed off hearing your discrimination experience in the hospital, but I can tell these cases are a matter of luck and can happen to all people. Glad you have observed and experienced the rich culture, foods, and the hospitality of Iranians. Next time please visit the areas I mentioned. Best wishes Nora!!!

I think its very fair summarise. Some tend to hear one voice... got triggered by negatives (as they were against them as a person... Is is a misunderstood patriotism or so? ) but there is more to this video than complaining. And of course an opinion its a private thing which happens in a particular time and place. Like photography. So when you live in Iran try to think from outside because your country is not the centre of the Universe (As same as mine of course and that annoys me so much when my fellows try to think like it was)... and an opinion from outside might open your eyes as well as make you happy or angry. Visitors don't have to love everything... and honesty is more valuable than sweet juice of datels. You may call it blunt honesty if you want.

I have to echo many of other commenters, you do often sound very ungrateful, especially with your attitude (bit down and road fatigued) . With the very little most Iranians have, they still extend an arm and try to help, but your trowing shade. Having said that, you are 100% right too, culture do differ, especially to someone who comes from one of the most liberal states in the world, Amsterdam, with unlimited personal freedom. Folks are curious, especially when they are locked in. And hopefully with more folks like you, humanity can bridge the difference. As a fellow motorcyclist I can attest to number of very close encounters in middle east and south Asia and even hurdled rocks . However, if you think Iran was bad (they do have deadliest roads i believe) wait till you get to east Pakistan and God be with you in India. There's a guy with Honda 90 that does this route and he loves it, but as you state, his a guy ( c90advantures). Keep safe and on two wheels, be senetary in India, there's still leprosy in many towns. ps. if your traveling for scenery and since you have the opportunity, may I recommend the kinnaur(himachal pradesh) or if your simply crossing into india don't miss the border guard ceremony at wagah border. Oh, forgot, your a vegetarian.

I think the cultural difference is immense and apparent between dutch and Iranian. It’s a rather individualistic and independent mentality versus a warm and family-oriented one, generally speaking. You stated that you are also a feminist. That personal identity is fundamentally in a clash with the reality of Iran’s overarching theocratic system. So i can see why you felt how you felt. I have never been to Iran. I am expressing my personal opinion based on assumptions.

Nora, I think you were fair in your comments here. You stated early on that your expectations were (perhaps unreasonably) high, making disappointment much more likely. My guess is, with time, your perception may change, which makes videos like this so much more valuable to the world, as an honest snapshot of how you felt at that time. I appreciate your honesty. I was so super jealous of your adventure going through such a beautiful ancient country as Iran. I'm sure I will never get the chance. But my jealousy disappeared when I read the comments some people left here. It breaks my heart to learn that there really are people in Iran who buy into their Party Line propaganda and seem to fully believe that anything outside their own borders is wrong or evil. It had been my hope that that only happened here in USA. I'm very sad. By the way, I don't believe that it was a Western standard of hospitality that you might have been expecting? Quite the contrary, in the West, it would be rare to encounter the hospitality one finds in the countries you visited just previous to your Iranian sojourn, and it is likely that experience, along with tales from others who had recently visited in a more conventional way, that fed your high expectations?? That's just a guess, of course. I wish you the very best of luck on the rest of your journey! And try to keep the shiny side UP, for the remainder, ok?

Nora, I understand your concern for Iranian society, but keep in mind that not every country needs to adapt the western narrative of living. even though I don't believe in forced sharia, and even if we take islam and religion out of it all, we Persians still have our own culture, identity and mentality very different than Westerners and we don't need to emulate the west or america as these countries in terms of society are chaotic, broken and overall a mess. I don't agree with everything in Iranian or Persian culture, but I agree with it much more than what the west has to offer.

I know this curisity and gazes of people omg :/ it is very annoying, yet at the same time you can find very fabulous educated people that lead you to the best experiences. i wish you could found some friends that they could lead you on this point. I send you my best wishes to your next trip Nora.

I can relate to u. I have this theory where ppl take care of those who are of their own stock and antagonizing the rest. U are very simple and want to connect with everyone. Unfortunately, some perceive this as u having some compromising factor allowing them to abuse u. Also, the revolution has created a vacuum for existence of stupids to do shit to others in namr of being faithful. U r so cool man. I wished i could meet u.

I am from Iran and I wanna thank you for visiting the country. It is beautiful. However, there is a deep-seated patriarchal culture that needs A LOT OF work. But what is even more annoying than that is the dogmatic nationalistic sentiments of most Iranians (you can even feel that in the comments here too). They just do not respond well to criticism and expect everybody to say only positive things about their country, which is unrealistic. Anyways, after 2009, I had had enough and I immigrated to Canada. To be perfectly honest, Iran is no place to live. There is too much nationalism, too much traditionalism, too much religion, too much patriarchy, too little freedom, and, above all, too little desire among the people for self-reflection.

for certain the majority of iranians and pakistanis are amazing and wonderful people, but i'd probably by-pass and avoid iran and pakistan because of stories from travelers and travel safety embassy warnings. the -stan countries are better with the laws etc. heard tajikistan has beautiful mountainous scenic drives. i'd probably ride across by that route into asia if i were coming from europe.

be safe, specially in rest of your trip. I think people you met before, talking good about Iranian hospitality and culture, have their own experience, and you had you own. sometimes bad things happens. think about getting caught by Taliban militants in Pakistan! can you blame people of Pakistan for it? of course not. people of a country can not be judged just because of a bad event. and of course sometimes it is just curiosity that makes men paying much attention to a lonely foreigner woman with a motorcycle. this is not something that they see everyday. be good, God speed

5:50 the reason Iranian are curious n friendly with westerners is 1979 revolution. after the islamic revolution iran became isolated from the rest of the world .specially USA and Europe. people are just excited to see new faces thats all. I live in Iran n honestly I dont care what other people think about us. after revolution the strong cultural link between Iran and west which was built over the years by Shah (Iran's king)was completely cut . the elite part of society which formed the government had to gave up their places to the poor. this Iran is a result of 38 years ruling poor over elite (culturally) . feeding their ideas to children, brain washing 3 generations to whats wrong and whats right. to keep them in power . we need more people like you, we dont want keep hearing Iran is good becuse its not and u send wrong message if you say so. so thanks for helping Iran. even if you dont know u are helping

Stay home. Don't travel. You obviously have had a preconceived notion going into that country. You most likely have next to naught knowledge of that country's ancient culture and civilization. As long as you travel the world wearing your superiority complex up your sleeve, you would be a miserable travel no matter where you go. Travel within yourself and fix your issues before you decide to explore other lands.

You were angry because of that accident and affected so much on your way of reporting and as you mentioned it comes from your lack of such experiencees. But what's good is you know your weak points besides strong points. As you said, Iran isn't worst place in the world for women. But is one of worst and we Iranian made this situation by our historical masterpiece, 1979 revolution. Anyway, the way you chose to travel naturally can't be without not so nice memories, but just remember you slept in middle of nowhere in a country that mainstream media every day try to report a super dark image of its instability and lack of security, you've sent different message by this serie thanx to social media era.

You are right Iran is a traditional country and men are quite aggressive in Iran specially police. I am Iranian women and I don't trust Iranian men So Iran is beautiful but Iran is traditional with supper controls men. As Iranian women I give U a right to even scare because is different life style and culture. Iranian are very nice People with good heart but they are as I said grow with crazy Islamic religion. Iranian men should be more open minded and give more chances to Iranian women, because Iranian women try they best for freedom.

Nora, your comments about Iran are negative and sound ungraceful! You have visited a country where people were extremely friendly and hospitable and they invited you to their house and did not charge you for accommodation, food, fun, etc, and at the end you are nagging about them? Just because a bike accident you had in the trip? There is safety issue for bikers and cyclers all around the world, for example, a famous Danish cyclist was KILLED on road by a car driver in Netherlands or Belgium recently. Would you judge their whole nation with that accident?

It is quite naive to expect that all people in the world have that liberal type of mind. Gosh, just go to Saudi Arabia or North Korea where some or all people treated like garbage, then you see that Iran is definitely on a soft side. I don't know what you have expected, but I am surprised that you expected something extraordinary from Iran.

You fell off your bike, so that’s a major bummer & influenced your mood severely. We need more vlogs by a western woman - a female perspective for countries like this. But girl, you’re kinda depressing to watch. You had to know it wasn’t going to be easy. Very naive to have high expectations, but I guess that’s what travel is about. Seeing good & bad.

Well I think you clearly got the reason why Iran did not impress you much and the reason was your high expectation. Regardless of the fact in which country you are, this mindset is always a killer. However, my important question is why would you have such a high expectation anyways? .. I am Iranian myself, but we have to admit that we have been separated from rest of the world for about 40 years now. You could have easily studied about that before you set foot in Iran and this could've helped you better understand your mixed feeling now. Our education methodology not only failed to develop since that time but got also poisoned by a brainwashing ideological system which is suppressing Iranians right from the revolution - till now. After revolution, many young men in my country did not get to learn how they should behave towards a woman and many young women still do not know their basic rights in the society. Just because the system doesn't want it this way. But you don't have to blame it on us, blame western countries which made this happen to us. In retrospect, who served Ruhalla Khomeini (Supreme leader) whose dangerous ideology was clear for every country at the time? it was France! Who warned Shah (The leader before revolution) with overthrowing his government if he would not follow their oil policy? England! and who removed our elected prime minister (Mosadegh) and caused this whole revolution few years later USA.. I suggest that you kindly watch this video later kzitem.info/news/bejne/yqOf0mWfgqJ6jHY .. just as an example to see where we were going and where we are now. We had everything at that time, social and economical freedom. The only thing we lacked was political liberty which in the last years the Shah accepted to provide it for his people, but the decision was already made by the ones who did not want him to be in power and they had already selected his replacement too. You can see way worst countries nowadays in the region who are torturing and killing their people on a daily basis but they keep ruling without any concern just simply because their governments are following the codes of western countries. It might sound a little like a "conspiracy theory" to you but if you would have lived in this country for along time and see its talent, capacity, natural resources, etc you would believe in the fact that the world would be a different place for many powers at the time if Iran grew and became more developed. I personally invite you to google (image) "Iran before revolution" and see how advanced we were for our time. without any prejudice, more developed than many European countries at the time.
