Have this bike in it's stock spec with SRAM rival 1x and it is a wonderful bike. My LBS had them on sale from the factory for 30% off at the start of this season in Canada. Good looking bike with good components, not paying for anything you don't need, but well enough equipped to make it feel like a serious bike only limited by its rider in my case lol. So far it has been a pleasure to ride. I have used it for urban commuting primarily and it hops curbs and handles rough surfaces beautifully. Also quite efficient on longer road rides with the tires pumped up, and can handle some rough trail type conditions if you come across them. Really versatile and great value.

I am on a different brand bike but the ethos is the same. Sensible option second bike (with 2 wheelsets), multi use as a Bikepacking / Gravel / Winter Road bike - the simplicity of that 1x GRX system is great and i will probably make the same upgrade you mention when they eventually bring out the GRX Di2 1x. I am currently running a 38T oval front / 11-42t cassette - hoping this is enough to haul my ass up to Pic du Midi Bigorre in just over a weeks time. Only thing i would change is i would like a Lauf suspension fork but it has not currently got mudguard mount options so rules it out as it limits the bikes uses in bad weather.

Yeah I think that the Di2 version whenever it arrives will be fantastic. I'd think gear ratios should be ok, I am a big believer that you never complain about having more gears if that makes sense? I tried a Lauf fork previously. It was ok, I rode across Australia on one. I don't think it was amazing especially for the cost of it to be honest but it looks cool! If you want some suspension, you could always look at Redshift stems? You can get 15% off with the code CHRISHALL here: redshiftsports.avln.me/c/avAXxXJpqJzi

I have a similar build spec for one of my gravel bikes. I would consider this Grey Matter as a great option for building up but really do prefer T47 BB’s or BSA threaded BB. I’ve had press fit and they are fine until there not and can become frustrating when you are trying to work that out.

Interesting video, can I stir it up by staying could I use flat bars on it? After something for rides to work and along canal towpaths. Currently using my hardtail mtb but after something different, coming from a mtb background.

Hi Chris. Looks like a great bike. How do you find the Overlands? Was thinking of trying them for my commute: London broken roads, canal paths some chunk. Any thoughts?

I really like them! I’ve got them on both of my gravel bikes now. They feel plenty fast enough and seem super tough considering the battering I’ve given them. They’re also surprisingly grippy in mud which I didn’t expect

@@ChrisHallRides thanks for the response. Great to hear - its surprising how hard everyday riding in London is on tyres - plus I'm a big guy. I was worried they would feel a bit heavy but durability is a bigger concern than outright speed. They sound like a good fit. Thanks for the info. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Howdy Chris...whats the weight of the Grey Matter. I've been riding a Felt Broam 30 as my initial foray into gravel. The GRX 2 x 11 is flawless, but the bike is a pig in terms of weight. I have 43 mm tyres on it...very forgiving for an old man 😅 Like you various wrist and hand injuries are driving me towards electronic shifting. Problem is the Di2 groupsets are quite expensive. 😮😮 Thanks as always.

Honestly I have no idea what it weighs. It's not as light as the Dark Matter. I'm not really that fussed on bike weights to be honest

I run 38cm width handle bars on road bike can you get the same for gravel. Thank you great topic as on got room in shed for two bikes and my work bike is would have to go to accommodate a new bike. Is practically for every day use to and from work as well
@ChrisHallRides

Yep you can run 38cm bars on a gravel bike. Youd have to change the bars but I’m guessing you’ve had to change them in your road bike too

I prefer the zip as opposed to the flap top but both work great. The flap is well designed and easy to open with one hand
