It certainly is. I have done a full 18 holes with a ruling at each hole if you want to have a look here golfrulesguru.com/a-round-at-brokenhurst-manor/ The videos are also available on this channel.

I have zero respect for any rules of golf that only apply to regular players and not the elite pros. We all saw Tiger Woods have a giant boulder moved for him during tournament play as well as looking for nearly 30 minutes for a lost ball that went over the club house, both of which he received no penalty. Therefore as a regular Joe I will remove any loose impediment as I see fit.

Hi David. You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but please don't blame me should you find yourself DQ'd from a competition or gradually losing playing partners if you continually play fast and loose with the rules.

I personally feel that the people responsible for the big re-write leading to the new 2019 Rule Book did an amazing job of tidying up, clarifying, and simplifying the rules. Golf is a global game and is unique in that the field of play is different on every hole on every golf course. Legislating so concisely for all the potential circumstances that golfers and golf balls can get in to is quite remarkable. If you are playing a social game with your mates and you have your own rules to help you enjoy the game that is absolutely fine and to be encouraged. However when playing a formal competition we do all need to play to the same rules to avoid anyone having an unfair advantage.

@@TheGolfRulesGuru but we don’t play to the same rules, that’s the point. We don’t have fans helping us find a ball, even when off the fairway in longer rough there is no Marshall helping or finding a plugged ball, or having a caddy showing us the line of putt, or helping a player with rules to avoid penalties etc. player should play and manage rules infractions, read own putts and be left alone to find balls, if not rules are not equally applied. Caddy cleans and caries clubs, rakes bunkers and repairs divots, that is all.

@@Seektruth-59 Yes - as you say the tour players have a lot more help to get round the course from caddies, fans, and officials. However they do play to the same rules. There is nothing (other than affordability and availability perhaps) stopping you from employing a caddy or forecaddy if you want - or the local rambling club helping to look for your ball if they happen to be passing at the right time. Unlikely but possible. The main thing is that you (hopefully) enjoy your golf. Thanks for your comments

@@TheGolfRulesGuru I do and I don’t take it seriously but also losing a ball just off a fairway or lousy lie in a bunker footprint does not make me take a stoke off nor anyone I play with.
