Do the Paarl Authorities still have matters under control?
Total anarchy has arrived in Paarl.
On the afternoon of the 5th of September 2017 around 13.40 hr a truck with precious load overturned on the corner of Sonstraal and N1 turn-off.
The control-centre of the Farm-watch received the emergency call of the accident and 2 teams rushed to the site.
The driver was only slightly injured and had a painfull-back. Inmediate Ambulance services Paarl, partners with the Drakenstein Farm watch, examined the driver and no further action was needed.
The truck overturned and lost part of its load. The truck company inmediately dispatched another truck and team to take over the load…but unfortunately they were not prepared for Paarl’s finest.
The entire ordeal took more than 4 hours to conduct and our teams were present and recorded the entire procedure and happenings with time mode.
Firstly the farm-watch teams upon arrival, took care of traffic and used the control-centre to ask for Provincional Traffic and Paarl Traffic to come and assist as the N1 off ramp way was blocked. Secondly we called for Paarl police as a dangerous situation was at hand. A tolcon fire rescue officer also assisted and made sure the truck did not go alight although much diesel ran over the hot engine.
A swift arrival of a police vehicle and 2 officers was followed by its early departure minutes later, never to return. Only around 15.33 a dog brigade patrol-car stopped to offer some assistance but the Paarl crowd had already assembled for the big looting. 15.42 a second dog unit arrives but this vehicle also leaves minutes later and at 16.07 as the first dog team also leaves, the big looting starts.
Two hours and 27 minutes after the accident, the first Paarl traffic officer arrives, but still no police. Needless to say we called many times for assistance for both police and traffic officers via our control-room…recorded and on paper.
A passing Captain of the police in private clothing sees our predicament and tries in vain to turn the situation: a total disrespect of the police is shown by the hoarders who call threads and racist remarks and continue their looting . The captain is seen and heard calling for backup at different police stations but as we now know, in vain.
The load team of the truck company is sitting on their roofs as the product is “taken” and they cannot do anything. We see bakkies arrive and leave for several times fully packed with materials, stolen from the trucking company, but no police or traffic officers. The same happens as hundreds of “people” take to the load as well and place threats and even pick up rocks to take action to whom may try to turn the tide.
In vain we tried ourselves to contact Paarl municipality and we got feedback of meetings in progress so “do not disturb”. This is the same municipality which tries to organise law and order as they say, but let the people down big time.
The Drakenstein Farm-watch is offering a solution for the staff problem of both police and Municipality as happenings like this are happening more and more and we fear it will end in a complete tragedy..
We hope it is again a lesson learned of how the mob is handling the situation in a total uncontrolled environment.
Our crew has got a camera rolling and all is on film via the dashcam of our patrol-vehicles.
We rest our case.
Total anarchy is upon us and we better get prepared.
