Nelson is buried at St. Pauls London. Yew trees are only found in Church grounds as they are deadly to cattle if eaten. The trees were needed for long bows, and it was law for men to practice long bow shooting, after Church in medieval times. Great video. I love the history of this place. The face that you guys were checking out at 13:42 into the video is most likely an example of what was known as The Green Man of The Forest, hence the leaves around him and also coming from his mouth. This is a tradition that goes back into Pagan times and relates to a beleif in a green nature god of the forest and was also linked to early sightings in the woods of what we might call Bigfoot today. It was often depicted in medieval churches as a nod to the pagan worship of nature from the days before the Romans came to England and implemented Christianity. This is similar to how the native people in Mexico would sneak images of their gods into the early Catholic churches. I learned this from Deborah Hatwell who runs a KZitem channel that covers this subject.I beleive there are also elements of the Green Man mythology that are connected to Herne the Hunter as well. Cheers!

Beautiful little family Church and graveyard. The vaults would have remains of coffins and possibly bones in them, they collapse after so many years due to the natural earth subsidence with continuous rain etc. Most of them have an arch above the doors or are bricked up to stop wild life getting in. This is a historic building and should be listed with The Historic Trust to save it. The whole area and land originally would have been owned by the Nelson family for sure. I would live to see some of the old maps for this area and what buildings were there in the past. Thank you so much for this very interesting video, well done. 💕🇦🇺

fyi sometimes the letter 's' was written like a letter 'f' but without the bar. Therefore the sentence that you were trying to read about 12 minutes in was "she died (on) 10th Jan 1689 in a deep sense of virtue and pious zeal for rebuilding this little church founded in the year 1147. With a grateful but sad heart... ". The first sentence is very interesting, ..." daughter of Colonel John (can't read the next name) of Compton Esquire who was beheaded for the Kings cause..." so presumably this is a Royalist army officer beheaded by Cromwell's side. He was basically on the losing side of the English civil war.

Just came across this video ! It stated that the church was originally built in 1143 obviously with some alterations over time ! The arched ceiling looks Tudor which would have been painted bright glowing deep blue with gold - star etc embellishments like at Hampton court Chapel ! The early floral hand made/ painted windows could also be from Tudor times as it’s much thicker glass so more typical of the Tudor period ! So they need to be preserved and treated with care ! The the floor of black and white squares could be connected with the Masons, and the symbolic design also on the floor not exactly sure but the cross design is Templar / Cross with its curved edge shape standing on a pedestal ! I’m sure a meaning could be found re this symbolism !! The green man face takes use back to the chapels early beginnings / roots. also the marble plaques are very interesting. Re giving far more knowledge of this Illustrious family ! As having read about Nelsons life, little if any speaks of the Nelson family only in very vague terms ! In sure if this chapels renovated and brought to life again, it would attract many many visitors including historians etc and many visitors from abroad who would find this fascinating being part of the Nelson family history, as many who have visited Nelson Tomb in London ! Someone or who ever owns this Chapel / Land has been very remiss and short sighted ! holding such a jewel in there hands !! Yet not seeing it as worth anything of value ??? This is a great Travesty to say the least !

Yes, I'm with you. I think this place should be taken care of. One of Britain's most revered people and let his family chapel go to ruin. So sad.

Thank you. Lord Horatio Nelson is buried at St Paul's in London. I haven't heard of the Lord Nelson interred there. I shall have to look it up. Sounds interesting.

Nelson, 'the second greatest Briton after Churchill imo.I went through Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk about 20 odd years ago but was not aware of this building. Good to see other than the condition it has been left in. Typical British trait of forgetting our history and often replacing much of our heritage or leaving it to rot away. Always had an interest in military history since I was a kid and Nelson is forgotten by many due to WW1 and 2 along with Waterloo. New subscriber. (came upon my feed by some weird mysterious way).

The church itself stands within the grounds of T. Park, the house and estate purchased by Act of Parliament and presented by a grateful nation to the heirs of Lord Nelson, who had been created an earl posthumously. The earldom could only pass through the male line, so the title went initially to William Nelson, Horatio's elder brother, and then, after he died with no surviving male issue, to an obscure nephew. So T. Park - the house was built in 1733 and renamed in Nelson's honour - became the family seat to a lesser-known branch of the Nelson family and remained so until 1948, when the estate was sold. The house is now part-family home, part classical musical venue and part film location.
