I want you to watch the films that make you feel something, not what the algorithm wants to see. There are so many things to be said but I will keep it simple. Obviously this is legendary. That being said, recognizing Smeagol by his eyes alone was SO exciting in theaters the first time. It was a slow build for me through the series but by this time, the story was precious to me. Pippin sent the most important text message in Middle Earth history. All kidding aside. This is the greatest trilogy ever in my mind.

I'm sure not as many people are watching these ones because they're not first time reactions. But they don't seem to be doing too bad! Similar view counts to some other reactions you have up, so that's good to see! I do think these videos would be getting a ton more views though if this was your first watch. LOTR reactions usually do pretty great. Either way, we really enjoy rewatching them with you! It's fun to return to amazing movies like these. ❤ Live hearing your thoughts on them!

It’s crazy to think people aren’t watching a movie they love and know is worth re-watching just because a reactionist is honest about whether or not they have seen a particular film before. I don’t care either way because even if I have seen LOTR countless times, it is my first time watching it WITH OSCAR! For me, watching reactions to movies I have seen prior does detract from the video at all, because I get to relive the first time I saw the film through another and experience their emotions and their thoughts. But even though this is not his first time seeing LOTR, Oscar have so much to add as an individual regarding commentary, that it still feels like I’m gaining a nuanced and unique perspective that only adds further value to something I already love so much. If you ever see this Oscar, don’t ever apologize or doubt the value of these videos you pour so much passion and heart into. Your charismatic, endearing, and empathetic soul shines so clearly through the screen each time. You keep me coming back, man! I’ll be a pleasure to watch whatever content you put out, hah. Love you dude and cheers man. YOU GIVE US SHIVERS MAN! 😌✨❤️👍

Watching movies with people who love it is a unique experience in its own right. It’s not the same as “showing a friend a movie” which is how watching first-time reactions can feel, but it’s fun and comforting sometimes and people notice/comment on things they wouldn’t have if they hadn’t already seen the movie.
@christinabrock2893

Yes, and being able to make connections in the comments, without worrying about spoilers, adds a lot to the interaction side of the experience too. I usually avoid re-watchers' commentaries, but I love Tolkien's work so much (and I really like the way Oscar responds to things, too) that I thought I'd watch these anyway, just this once, and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. Maybe I'll go ahead and watch more of this sort of reaction in future.

At 31:58, in the book Denethor asks Pippin whether he can sing, but he never demands a song. The words of Pippin's song are part of one of Bilbo's old walking-songs; Billy Boyd composed the tune over a weekend. Pretty remarkable...

I love your tiny giggles when you get excited in all your reactions, 😂♥️ Edit: Denethor was, if I remember correctly, driven to insanity by Sauron. He used the Palantir from Minas Tirith and Sauron capitalised on his fears and paranoia to the point he became the bumbling mess we see here (Grosso modo).
@michaelklaus
3 ай бұрын
This is sadly not acknowledged in the movies; while Sauron has used the one Palantír to openly talk to Saruman, manipulate him, and beguile him into betraying his mission; with Denethor and his Palantír on the other hand Sauron manipulated him differently; on one hand it might explain why he goes mad but it might also be that he manages to feed him false information; so when Denethor is angr with Faramir for loosing Osgiliath and sends him back out, (IIRC or maybe that was my assumption back when I read the book) Denethor believes he knows better than Faramir, because he has seen the numbers of enemies... but Sauron has shown him fake images and hidden the true strength of those forces so the real issue portrayed in Denethor is his hybris in that he believes he has mastered the Palantír and and was too strong of will to be influenced by Sauron or whoever had the other Palantíri; this led him to mistrusts his most loyal servants who could have either confirmed or corrected what he saw in the Palantír

In regard to Denethor, the movies don't tell you that Denethor had, and regularly used, one of the Palantiri seeing stones. Over time Sauron showed Denethor selective pictures that led Denethor to completely despair. "Against the power rising in the East, there is no victory". In the movie he once says to Gandalf "do you think the eyes of the White Tower are blind" which is as close as he comes to admitting he has the stone. I think one brief scene showing him using it would have explained much...

At 23:29 you say, "I wonder how much time they've had between Helm's Deep and this." The time line here works a bit differently between the movie and the book. In the book, there's no time for a victory celebration; the Rohirrim are off for Gondor as fast as the Riders can all be mustered from the various corners of Rohan. From the meeting with Saruman to the muster at Dunharrow is five days, plus another five days from there to Minas Tirith.

Something that just occurred to me watching your reaction: Galdalf says the ruling of Gondor is left to "lesser men" and Denethor proves it when he has his breakdown--he isn't capable of leading people in crisis, he can't even pull himself together well enough to realize his son isn't dead, he is less capable than a king in crisis must be and it's why he feared Aragorn. Aragorn isn't a threat to the prosperity of Gondor, he's a threat to the perks of royalty that Denethor enjoys without earning it by being a true leader. Once it comes time to buck up or shut up, Denethor proves lesser than Aragorn in every way and I think he realizes that before the end and can't bear his own patheticness.

See what Sauron did when Pippin looked into the palantir? Sauron's been doing that to Denethor for years. There is another palantir in Minas Tirith, which Denethor has been using for decades by this point. Also, Denethor distrusts Gandalf because he views the Wizard's efforts to unite the Free Peoples of Middle-earth against Sauron as a grab for power to usurp the Steward of Gondor. It's because of this distrust that makes him mistreat Faramir. When Faramir was young, Gandalf would often teach him about the lore of the world whenever the Wizard would visit Gondor. Meanwhile, Boromir was a great warrior, earning renown in battle, thus earning Denethor's favor.

The line "Do you think the eyes of The White Tower is blind?" hints at the Palantir of Minas Tirith. In the book Denethor held it as he was being burned to death and if you tried to look into it, you'd only see a pair of old hands burning.

Gandalf in the book was far, far more powerful than the Witch-King. He says, after the battle of Minas Tirith, that the only being more powerful than him in Middle-Earth is Sauron himself. Remember that even as Gandalf the Grey, he fights off multiple nazgul on Weathertop, using fire magic. At Minas Tirith in the book, the only thing that kept the Witch-King from being wrecked was him turning around to see what was up with the arriving Rohirrim. Peter Jackson had the Witch-King break his staff and seem more powerful just to up the drama, as is necessary in a film.

OMG, thank you for sticking up for Pippin and talking about how Gandalf would benefit from explaining things to him. People are so quick to get frustrated and angry with him because they think he's too young and foolish, but it's because he is young that he's foolish and no one taking the time to explain things only makes him do more 'foolish' things. It's a vicious cycle and my heart breaks for him every time some one glares or grumbles at him. He has the capacity to learn if people give him the chance. Grima's death is much better in the books, since it's Hobbit Archers who shoot him dead before Frodo can stop them instead of Legolas just shooting him when he posed no threat to them. The Nazgul's winged steeds are Fell Beasts, Tolkien never provides details about them, but they are suspected to be from the Wastelands north of Angmar. In the book it's only until the first ring of Minas Tirith is burning that Denathor dispairs and Gandalf has to take over.

It actually was fortunate that Pippin looked in the Palantir first. Even Gandalf in the books says this, cause he was debating looking in the Palantir first. But because it was Saruman's Palantir, Sauron assumes that Saruman had the hobbits and sent a Nazgul to Isengard. So it was fortunate they were able to learn about Minas Tirith without revealing Frodo or Gandalf to Sauron.

At 3:25 you say, "I think that's my favorite title read." Tolkien of course wanted his story published in one volume, but that wasn't practical because of economic conditions in Britain at the time. So the publisher needed separate titles for the three volumes. Tolkien initially objected to the title of the third volume, since it kind of gives away the story. We've all learned to live with it. To reiterate, LOTR was not written as a trilogy; it is a single long story. Some reactors ask us to comment on which is our favorite movie, but this misses the point. Peter Jackson & Co. also filmed the story back to back to back for the same reason. It was considered daring at the time, but it worked so well that several more recent franchises have been filmed the same way.
@thecocoacouch

I mean most stories including LOTR consist of 3 acts anyway. So having it split into a trilogy actually works well narratively speaking and asking which one is your favourite is essentially asking which act in the story you like. The only difference is that they are labelled as “films” or “books”.

The thing "festering in the heart of Middle-Earth" is reference I THINK to the abandoned idea Dagor Dagorath, Battle of Battles, where Morgoth (first Dark Lord before Sauron) returns to the world for one final battle. And when all is won, the Valar rebuild the world of Arda. Tolkien abandoned the idea, but I think they may have been referencing it here

I've really enjoyed rewatching these movies with you. It's given me a better understanding of what's actually going on. I couldn't get on with the books because there were too many characters and place names that I had to remember in order to understand the stakes. Similarly I never truely "got" the movies because I didn't have a clue who was who. I watched these films because I love the spectacle of it all and the music etc. Like you, I usually watch them back to back. However, really taking my time with them and doing them in more managable chunks like this has allowed my brain to process the information better. I'm seeing things I haven't seen before, appreciating characters I don't normally think about, and it's making me "feel" the story more. Why I am watching these later than other of your uploads is because I wanted to watch them all in a row x) can't watch Part1 and wait for Part2.

Love your LOTR reactions. I like that you’ve seen these & have perspective about how you saw it before & how you see it now. These films & books feel & impact differently as you age & experience grows (like most media). Can’t wait for the conclusion! Will you watch The Hobbit? I know they’re much more divisive… but I enjoy the films for what they are. I actually don’t particularly like the book (though I think it’s still an important piece of literature), mostly because I read LOTR & then later read The Hobbit. I wanted it to be more dense like LOTR & it was too much of a child’s book (though I do like other books aimed at children like Narnia).

Im sure someone else mentioned this or already knew it but Christopher Lee was a covery operative during WWII and so he told peter what a person getting stabbed in the back actually sounds like Also orlando bloom was notoriously a lightweight when it came to drinking so the fact that legolas beats gimli is doubly funny

I love these movies, so whether a first time or 50th, I enjoy these movies. I get to enjoy favorite movies with friends this way even if we're never in the same place

I have a question! So in one of your last videos you said you don’t need your own copy of the movie/show to follow along with on Patreon, but when you go to your profile on there it says you need your own copy. Sooo I’m wondering which it is? Thank you!
