So the whole "box" unit where the canon sits is able to raise and lower, this was a question Matt Plog was asked in an AMA way back when.

That's the most Clan-like solution to a problem I've ever heard. They can't pitch the gun up to aim it, so they put the entire turret on a lift to OPEN THE ARMOR and allow the gun to pitch up. "We bid away our common sense to allow the enemy a fair fight."

@@BobTheTrollKing no, not the entire turret unit, just the rectangular section that houses the cannon with the pulse laser on top.

Good to know. I kind of wish this had been part of the writing before it was handed over to plog to create the art. Having the art and writing working together would help a lot of these designs, especially the 3060 'mechs.

Seems that the pivot-point of the AC could be right at the back, maybe fed by a chain feed under the barrel. It could point almost straight up then. It looks in a more stowed position in the artwork.

"Oro" means Gold in Spanish, as such you can expect this tank to be very heavy and very expensive.

Since the Low Altitude Map rules are the only convenient rules, I will assume their use, as such the most standard of AeroSpace attacks the Strike has a max Altitude of 5 which translates to +10 Hexes measured from the center of the map sheet to determine actual range, so the LB20X with a max range of 12 hexes could hit Aerospace if positioned properly, not to mention the Clan LPL with 15 hexes. Now for the AeroSpace to escape ground fire from the Oro. assuming it wasn't a target, your only option Altitude Bombing would have to fly at 8 Altitude or +16 Hexes, but would be hitting on a 4+8 or 12, so far from ideal.

I see where you're coming from CR. Sane engineers tend to have tank guns pivot around the centre of balance, and leave space behind the gun to recoil into. But this is the clans, so needlessly complex and needlessly expensive aren't barriers to design. :p Here's how picture it working. The square cross section box houses the LBX-20. The gun can only reload at minimum elevation. And at rest the gun is in the front ⅔rds of the box. (This puts the breach over the turret ring so it can be reloaded from the hull as described.) The rear ⅓rd is for the guns recoil, and right at the base is the mother of all trunnions to allow a hydraulic ram mounted a bit further forward to elevate this glorious monstrosity.

True the clans do have the luxury for such excess, I should have factored that into the ramble :)

Everything above the tracks is the turret, & you can see how the LB20 elevates out of the top. But the AA idea doesn’t hold up. Too short ranged. A Partisan IIC with 4xLB5s would be much more effective. A gun line of these against Ice Hellion “Flurries” would be fun.

Sounds more like a 'Mech killer. LB20 to open em up, LPLas to knock em down. idk.

how exactly are you suppose to hit aerospace with an LB20x.... sure, hitting an airfield - the craft on the ground - not moving. I mean it could easily take the role of a hunchie, but AA- stick to Partisans or Shreck.... The brick sh1thouse bulld is nice, but does remind me of a heavy mover with a turret. maybe the school bus front glass. .. the art -i do like it.

Having used it, not a big fan. Bit slow (so loses speed to motive damage rather quickly), and it wastes *six tonnes* because of that ERML. The LPL takes up the 10 free heat sinks, so the ERML needs an additional five tonnes of sinks to soak up the heat. Dropping that would allow an extra tonne of ammo, a ballistic or missile backup weapon (something like an SSRM-4), and more armor. I'd take something like the Enyo over it.

It looks like the barrel is recessed inside the square block? Maybe the barrel can traverse inside the square block? Still really limited traverse, but I think that would work. LPL's are always nice though, good range and accuracy on a gun with zero ammo requirements

I hate the idea of a tank with only 10 rounds in total for it's main gun. It starts to feel like sturmtiger assault gun insanity. I guess there is a cold clan logic that it doesn't need more ammo, since it isn't going to last long enough for extra ammo to matter. (But I hate that too!)

In universe the ammo count is insanely low yeah and wouldn't make sense for the kind of battles being fought by the clans. On the table it's fine since ten rounds of fire is ten rounds of gameplay so I think most writers just work around those factors.

My primary thought is....God help you if you have to work on the suspension. Because this is worse than 40k tanks. Simple tasks like replacing worn tracks or track tension is going to be horrible. And if this thing uses torsion bars....I feel really sorry for the techs.
