Found a lot of info pertaining to the articulated tug "Pawnee" which was originally built in Osaka, Japan named Kiyu Maru # 3 in 1976. The vessel is listed as decommissioned or lost. During it's service life, I was told the Pawnee was hauling a barge with a loadout of cement powder destined to the Caribbean island of St. Thomas when it suffered an engine casualty that crippled the vessel. The tug was then aquired by South PR Towing & Boat Service based in Guayanilla, PR. It was then (repaired) and used to pull the old Chinese passenger ship off the shallow rocky bottom before running aground at a depth of 4m and the vessel was subsequently abandoned. The tug has a port list of about 30°, laying severely rusted and weathered. All equipment has been removed, pilot house and overbridge sits empty (all equipment and navigation instruments removed), weather decks are rusted and access to the internal wooden finished compartments are either in danger of collapsing or have already collapsed due to age and weather elements. The vessel was brought in to remove and tow the Chinese passenger ship offshore some time in the early 90's when it too ran aground.
