I used my Powerpass on Gunlancer, the idea of a ranged tank appeals to me. I've tried out a bunch of builds but they all failed. Thank you for making this video, I'm already finding success with it and you did a wonderful job explaining how to play it... cheers.

Hey man a question. I'm personally struggling in 3v3s as it is, I seem to have the spec down and I've even experimented with something a bit different, but the problem is I always find myself being stunlocked for ages. As a "tanky" character this feels really out of place when every class can just knock me on my ass whenever they want. Am I doing something completely Fing wrong?

The thing that helped me the most is to learn to be a bit more reactionary with some skills, specifically Gunlance Shot and your backstep. Gunlance Shot, if you have tenacity, is going to prevent you from stagger or knockdowns. So against certain classes, this can be used as a reaction for some skills. One example of this is you can use Gunlance Shot INTO the wave attack Sorc use. Usually they are pretty safe during this skill, but for Gunlancer's it's a good opportunity for a knockdown. You should try to use gunlance shot as an option to avoid getting staggered/knocked down. Don't just throw it out too freely because it's a valuable skill. For your backstep, you have full immunity. And since this has a fairly short cd, you can use it pretty freely. Lastly your identity shield gets drained quickly when taking damage, but we don't use it to absorb damage. You want to use it to absorb "crowd control" if that makes sense. So if you can time the activation just right to avoid getting knocked down, you're doing it right. This shield is very good into stagger heavy classes such as Striker/Wardancer. You can toggle the shield on as they engage and hit them with a quick Dash Upper Fire. Hope this advice helps. I'm thinking of doing some VoD reviews in the near future to help explain the thought process because I believe that would help diagnose some common issues.

Gunlancer is strong but certainly the hardest class to play in pvp since all his skills are skill shots with very little aoe. You litteraly only have hookshot that is ez to use, all the other skills require lot of practice to be used efficiently in pvp. My gunslinger is countless time eaiser to use.....landing actual dmg is so much easier. Landing damage with pistolancer is really difficult and need lot of skill/practice

I really like your video, it's structured well, and not too long. Liked and subbed. I do however have a bit of critique and maybe something i feel could've been nice to see: 1. Mention more alternative skills, or even some skills that might be worth looking more into, like fx. shield shock (it has low dmg, but huge soft cc potential, and it can function as a 5m gap closer, or even give you dmg reduction buff to soak dmg), or leap attack. 2. Talk more about the identity skill(s) usage: What i mean by this is that you failed to mention that having shield on makes the player immune to push (knockdown/knockback/airborn), so being able to time it properly can completely ruin some classes big comboes - ike striker -. And that the battlefield shield has amazing repositioning potential, especially in 3v3. As an example of a different Gunlancer play style: I remember seeing a video with a korean high ranked player (a girl iinm), who uses a completely off-meta build to great effect, she uses (no build was provided so this is just from eyeballing a bit) leap attack with the shockwave, and leap tripods (18 meter jump is massive), battlefield shield (for repositioning or initiating), and iinm shout of hatred for soft cc, and absorb. But i'm not entirely sure about any tripods for SoH besides the absorb tbh. In general playing as an initiator with hard, and soft cc and being nuisance for the enemy team.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! So here's some insight as to why the video is structured the way it was. 1. For alternate skills, there are a few options, but I don't think they're quite as optimal and more situational, specifically in 3v3. For example, Guardian's Thunderbolt plus Shout can be taken in place of hook/bash. That combo of guardian/shout is much better against slower melee, super heavy armor teams. But it's really bad against ranged comps. I'm not a fan of leap attack due to it feeling slow and sluggish, but that might be a personal preference. As for Shield Shock, I really like the concept of the skill and utility it brings, but it really requires your team to have knowledge of what's going on. If you're in Solo queue, especially lower ranks, it's going to be a challenge to land your shield shock and expect allies to know you can follow up on that target while they are slowed/armor broken. In higher levels of play, it would probably work a lot better. That build would look something like Hook/Bash/Thunderbolt/Shield Charge/Nellasia's Energy/Shield Shock/Dash Upper Fire/Leap Attack and requires you to invest more into Spec than Domination. The reason I think Hook/Bash is more useful is due to its catch potential. Plus a single hook/bash combo onto 2+ people can really swing an arena in your favor. So overall, there are a few skills that might work, but at lower ranks, the build in the video is likely to be the most consistent, especially while learning. 2. I did very briefly mention which skills should be used alongside the personal identity shield under the playstyle and tactics (namely dash upper fire and shield charge) in order to try forcing some knockdowns. But you're right in that it probably deserves its own section entirely. I would probably be dedicating a whole video to that topic alone because it's truly where all the skill in the class falls upon. I also failed to mention the battlefield shield and it's uses in 3v3, especially to peel. But that might be for another time because there's a lot to talk about and I tend to ramble :D But again, thanks for the feedback! It's very helpful to know what to include/exclude in the future!

Have you considered swapping out Gunlance Shot for Leap Attack for more mobility/engagement? I've also seen swapping out bash with guardian's lightning because the lightning gives a free stun that's long enough for the surge cannon while also covering a larger area/more dmg. Pros and cons but just curious. I've tried it and I'm still in the middle lol

I think giving up Gunlance Shot is a bad option since Gunlance Shot is one of our main super armor attacks. It has some decent reach with the tripod setup mentioned in the video. So it will give you some engage potential from a surprising distance. Not quite as much as leap attack, but a passable amount. I think it also has a faster animation. As for bash, you can swap out hook Chain and bash for something like Shout of Hatred and Guardians thunderbolt. It's not bad for teams that are slower/have a lot of super armor. I think hook/bash has more play making though since a single hook/bash combo on 2+ people can swing a game. I've had a few instances where I managed to hook 3 people at once. If your team follows up at that point, it should be such a huge damage swing. In the end, that's probably preference. I've just gotten so used to hook/bash. There was a time where I'd run guardians thunderbolt instead of shield charge if I was frequently against super armor classes. You'd just need to stick with your team like glue though because you're going to be slow as hell haha

I am super mad about the low mobility and the fact that gunlancers have to constantly chase the fight, hit perfect timed skills and deal ok dmg (yeah burst cannon does a lot, but try hitting that more than maybe 2 times per game). It's like they designed this chad of a class for pve only, where I have to admit, is a beast.

There's a checklist you have to run through when looking to use Surge cannon, especially in 3v3 because it's easy to interrupt. In 1v1 you can probably get a decent amount of surge cannons off if you track the enemy's stand ability

In 1v1 or 3v3? In 1v1, berserker isn't a very good class due to their long CDs and slow animations. That being said, fun is subjective, but I think gunlancer is more fun since you can dictate the pace of a match. You tend to initiate fights, but also have to be reactive with your shields to protect allies in 3v3. Berserker tends to be more of a follow up class which needs to counter initiate for their team. They can initiate, but it's pretty easy to stop. Plus they are squishier than gunlancer with some long animations outside of your berserk mode. They also have long CDs which if your team doesn't play around, can cause some issues. That's my long winded opinion though lol. In the end, I'd suggest playing the class that looks the most fun to you. Anything can work in pvp, it'll just take time to familiarize yourself with the crowd control mechanics and how to avoid it, regardless of the class you play

Gunlancer is a pretty solid member of a 3v3 team, but it also requires people to play around you a bit. The gunlancer wants to be the focus of the attacks so your team can freely peel and counter engage. Their main role is disruption. You basically get into the back lines and force knockdowns for your team to follow up or you can provide shields to mitigate incoming damage when your team gets caught. You have to be smart with your surge cannons and often use them in tandem with your allies burst combos or off something like a counter Gunlance. He's pretty good in 3v3, but extremely difficult to play because of the decision making that goes into playing the class

Just depends on how you want to play. Guardians thunderbolt is better against high super armor teams like deathblade. But it's really bad against more mobile classes like soul fist and Sorc. Hook/bash is just much more consistent, but has a higher learning curve since you have to track more on when you can use your hook successfully.

2-2-2 for max damage. You only use charged stinger in scenarios you won't get interrupted, making the tenacity less worthwhile

The arenas game modes give you a separate skill book with set amount of stats and skill points you can use, meaning it's equalized. World pvp is not equalized.
