Awesome scene! I love the transition from sounds of total chaos and madness into piano version of Ben's Theme and total silence

after fourteen years I still get emotional when I hear the tone in which Ben said "I have to say goodbye to my daughter" It's heartbreaking, Micheal Emerson killed it in this role and it's a shame he didn't won an Emmy for every single season

At that moment I truly feel like he didn't care if he was killed, taken by the monster or shot by the mercs, he had to say goodbye to his daughter. His acting in that scene kills me.
I guess you could say that Ben… (puts on sunglasses) …smoked them out. YEEEEAAAAHHHH!

Ben 💔 the best character in the series for me. Michael Emerson is amazing

This scene underscore just why Ben was willing to kill Charlie, Sayid, Bernard and Jin and even his own people in the Looking Glass Station to keep the Freighter Mercs from coming to the Island. It also underscores why Ben killed Keamy even though it meant the bomb on the Freight would go off and kill who knows how many people. That doesn't excuse the horrible things Ben did/still does after this scene but it gives extraordinary subtext to his motivations.

Ben never actually summoned him. He just created that illusion.

No, he could summon it. The hieroglyphs read "Summon" on the door of the room he ran to, and he drained the water inside which is the process to summon it. He even mentions that he summoned it, when he later learns what the monster truly is.

Idk where you got that intel from, but later in the series you can see him draining water, n tells locke “i only know how to summon it”, and how could he create an illusion where a smoke monster nearly kills martin n his men, even hurley says “so you jus call that thing” even locke says “what did you do” so r to the b, your jus chatting nonsense you’ve clearly never payed attention to detail in the programme utter rubbish

I get what you might mean when you say this. According to the lore I know, it is unclear if the smoke monster is compelled or simply chooses to arrive when able. If the monster simply chooses to come when called, I guess Ben is creating the “illusion” of summoning the monster, but I don’t think Ben is aware of the full truth of the matter.

I think people are confused by what you mean. Ben believes he has the power to summon the monster (which to an extent he does) but he doesnt realise that the smoke monster is manipulating ben to believe it CAN be summoned. In reality it was the MiB, not a monster Ben thought he had the ability to control. So what he means is the MiB is manipulating Ben into believing he has the power to control the monster when he really doesnt.

@@jxsh03 thanks. Yes I mean that the smoke monster creates the illusion that "the others" can summon him. Smoke monster is a schemer.

Right? If it was supposed to be purgatory, WTF are all these events even for? What's the meaning behind this related to their real lives? Ben was a shit dad or thought he would've been a shit dad so he has to live this out and sacrifice himself to final death (smoke monster)? Should've been wrapped up a lot sooner if that's the case.
