In 1964 Sebring race this exact car finished fourth. As a spectator for that race, I remember an open cobra roadster driven by Johnson and Gurney that this coupe could not catch for eleven hours. in the last hour, the open roadster crashed on the pit straight allowing the coupe to finish fourth. A golden age of racing

Dr Simeone is a real car guy...and a great guy in general. I met him years ago at the previous location where his collection was stored. Now, with the beautiful new museum...it's even better. He drives almost all the cars in the collection.

There are other videos on youtube with Pete Brock that are the full story. Pete designed the car, worked at Shelby.. he lived it in real life and tells the full facts in those vids. This is a good introduction, but there is much more to know. What a collection this fellow has! He makes it a point to show his cars, allowing access to view.

Phil Spector bought this car from Jim Russell/ Russkit/AFX HO slot cars and a HO slot car was made of it , the master pattern maker for the slot car was Jason Boyd

@444bbla In a weird coincedence, the Pete Brock who helped design the Daytona coupe is NOT the same as the Australian racing legend, who got killed in a Daytona Coupe replica. The American Brock is live and well!!

Truthfully, This car really shouldn't have any lawsuit. The amount of people fighting over the car want it for the money, and that is it. A museum is probably the most suitable place for trumping Ferrari at Le Mans

The roadsters also competed in the GT class! The definition of the class was production based cars not closed cars. If the roadsters hadn't been GT cars, then the Coupe couldn't have raced in that class either as its homologation was based on it being a derivative (under regulation J) of the roadster. The Shelby team in '65 consisted of FIA roadsters and Coupes, and points from Bondurant winning a hillclimb in a roadster counted towards the championship.

The Daughter of the body guard that ended up getting this car. She wouldn't show it to anyone, Because she had somewhat illegally transferred ownership into her name. The speculation was she was was waiting for Phil Spectator to passaway so she could get the car. Investors started hounding her, And I guess she felt the heat was getting to close. So she gathered her pet Rabbits headed to a wash doused herself in Gasoline and lite herself on fire committing suicide. All her belongings went to her Mother and she sold the car for Four Million Dollars.

He doesn't tell you that the woman who owned the car committed suicide by setting herself on fire along with her pets. After that a 4 way legal battle ensued and somehow he won and presently owns the mythical beast you see in this video. He's a Neurosurgeon BTW. Many are not pleased with him owning the Coupe for it is truly 1 of a kind and a piece of North American history.

Restore or not restore. On the one hand it seems undignified not to restore it but on the other, it would take away from its authenticity. I lean towards restoring it.

It's really funny he says "pete brock outlined it".... RIIIIIIGHT. Pete Brock designed and built the entire car from the ground up himself. Pete Brock is probably due much more fame and respect than Carrol, and the real proof of this is when Carrol snaked the deal out from under him for the Toyota 2000GT. An upset Pete then got a deal with NISSAN who DIDN'T THINK THEY COULD RACE, and took an INFERIOR car and WON outright over and over and over again against carrol's team in the "better" 2000GT.

This Daytona Coupe is very special being the only one fabricated in the United States ! I would let Pete Brock do what he feels needs to be done to keep in line to what the creator feels would do the best justice for this one of a kind American creation . It is a true treasure . Very much like the AC Cobra CSX2000 was to Shelby .

I agree not restored is the best way now back in 2009 it was the fad to make it brand new do that ruin the look of an aged car. Only thing that ties it to being original is some documents.
