My Planning 10 teacher made us watch this for the second time today. The first time we did I couldn't make it through and left class for like 10 minutes. Nick (the guy with the piercings that got the boards dropped on him) actually came to our school and talked to us after the video. He was a pretty cool guy and it was really interesting hearing his story. But the first time we watched this it made me feel really uneasy since I was in a car accident at 6/7 years old and I had a job at a grocery store at the time.

Indeed. I wasn't in anything called Planning 10, but I was in a course involving metal working and such (this was a few years ago), and there was this one girl who got her finger caught in a roller because someone was rolling too fast when she was gripping her metal bar, and it slightly pinched her finger too much. Any more and that would've been insanely painful. Hard for people to believe such things can happen, but indeed, they can.

It's a mandatory course for grade 10 which you need to graduate. I'm not sure if this is country wide, but it is definitely BC wide, and it's a program which has been around for about 3 years. It's supposed to teach you about post secondary life, such as how to make resumes, cover letters, university courses you may need to take, potential future careers, work safety, ect. I'm taking it now and this is the last assignment we have to do (thank god). There's a worksheet we need to answer after watching this video.

I really feel for the people in this video, but here's a list of what I would of done in those situations: - Dough machine: Turned it off and inspect the problem - Wood stack: Got at a safe distance - Nighttime work: Grabbed the edge and pulled as hard as I can to rip through the pants and hang on. - Spinning around forklift: Leave and ask someone to help in the current situation.

I know the point of this is to emphasize the importance of workplace safety and that's absolutely important and what happened here is awful and the pain they went through is horrible, but like.... As a young disabled person... being disabled isn't the end of your life, it makes me uncomfortable how bleak this video is, like my life and the lives of these kids are doomed to be constant torture just because we use wheelchairs or have visible differences. We're not unlovable freaks, we can still do things, we can still be happy.

I mean, Im trying not to sound like uh offensive here, but I think there is a bit of a difference between someone who is born disabled, and someone who got disabled later in life. Here's my take, feel free to correct it: Someone who is born disabled, even though they can *see* and feel how they're different, will never get a first hand experience of what they would have had. So in a way its like "you cant miss what you've never had". Also people born disabled, depending on the disability, their body sort of compensates it in different ways, for example blind people having great hearing and touch. They dont "lose" something they never had in the first place Someone who gets disabled later in life, and the effects are more pronounced the later in life, and I guess this also applies to aging, in a way the disability is more painful, because they did experience a normal life, and likely took it for granted beforehand, they didn't think it was anything special, so when they suddenly lose something, because they had it at some point. And to top it all off, their body will probably never ever compensate for it. Hopefully this makes sense, and I genuinely hope that I didn't say anything too obviously wrong, and I wouldn't know, because I've never been disabled, and hopefully I don't suffer any tragic accidents later in life. Please, please do correct me if I'm wrong.

People always complain about how graphic this shit is. That's the point. Losing body parts IS graphic. And it fucking hurts like hell. Physically AND mentally, forever. You always have the right to say no without proper training. If something doesn't feels safe, don't do it. You deserve better than that.

Okay. 1) Never put your fingers near any moving machinery ever. That’s just common sense. 2) Never put a forklift in gear unless you’re sitting in the operator’s compartment with the seatbelt on. 3) Never stop the forklift with the forks still up in the air. More common sense. 4) Never walk on moving conveyor belts or moving machinery. That’s common....you know.

great video! I'm a safety engineer and I have never seen a company that was put out of business because of the costs of training, safety equipment etc. But I have seen companies that were shut down because of one (dosen't have to be fatal or as serious as the ones in this video) work related accident! It's cheaper for companies to train and properly equip all their workers than to have just one accident!

So many times, I've saved others from making these kinds of mistakes. There's a lot of value in having an experienced worker nearby. I had close calls myself but I was fortunate to have good safety training and the benefit of learning with more experienced workers who were very safety conscious. If only somebody could have been there to intervene, I can't count the number of times I've seen people saved from precarious situations by others who spotted the danger and yelled to them or intervened. We all have to look out for each other all the time.

worksafe BC NO need to apologise, and sensor this!, the graphic nature of this content is what is required to wake people up to the hazards, people need to see the consequences of their actions, good and bad; that is why the statistics haven't changed much, because you need to PERSONALISE the damage, make these kids think of what they will miss out on, the love lost, activities they can't do, that is what motivates them to do the right thing.
