Lothian Buses Vintage Running Day 2018. Vintage buses run on Edinburgh's roads with footage featuring classic vehicles such as the Atlantean, Leyland National, Olympian and Guy Arab bus.
This year's Lothian Buses Vintage Running event was a tricky one to record footage of as the weather wasn't fantastic with high winds making things uncomfortable for myself as the camera operator I can tell you. Sun was limited too where getting a good contrast during the shoot wasn't easy. Another problem I encountered was with the choice of Edinburgh bus terminus for this year's event which I felt didn't work as well as the previous years in 2017 when the event took place at Eastfield Terminus. Having said this, I'm still pleased with how the video has turned out with some excellent shots I like such as the Atlantean pulling into view. Alot of editing was needed to give you a taste of the day's event.

On the 29th September Lothian held it's annual doors open day event which included a Buses Vintage Running Day featuring many classic Edinburgh vehicles back on active service for a day. This year the vintage vehicles operated on route number seven running between Newhaven and Kaimes via Leith Walk. This year's event was a big success with over eight thousand people in attendance and a grand total of two thousand three hundred pounds being raised for charity.
Visitors were able to visit the Central Garage in Annandale Street to learn about the different businesses which combine to form the Lothian family which includes: Lothian City Services, Lothian Motorcoaches Edinburgh Bus Tours East Coast Buses Lothian Country Airlink by Lothian Skylink Nightbus For the younger generation at the Lothian event there was face painting, soft play areas, a bouncy castle play area and the opportunity to experience a bus wash.
Some of the vehicles seen in this video as part of the buses vintage running were operating in the Scottish capital at various times. The Central Garage has been the home of Edinburgh's fleet from 1926 with extensions being carried out in 1933 and 1963. By the middle of the 1960s there were over two hundred and fourty vehicles housed in the building.
Lothian Buses consists of fifty six daytime bus routes along with twelve night routes, nine east coast bus routes, seven lothian country routes, three open top tour bus routes, a Forth Bridges bus tour, one east coast tour and an airport service. It has bus depots at Longstone, Annandale Street, Marine, Musselburgh, North Berwick, Seafield and Newbridge.
The traditional colour of Edinburgh Lothian's fleet is a madder and cream bus. In the late 1990s, the branding was given a unique harlequin livery to signify that the bus had low floor access for disabled users including those with buggies.
Lothian's luxury vehicles are featured on the airlink express route 100, 400 and 300. These transports feature dedicated luggage area with CCTV security, leather seating, next stop info and free Wi-fi. Some of the latest buses even feature a female voice reminding passengers what the next stop is.
