My wife and I danced to this at our wedding reception. The greatest day of my life and an appropriate song for the occasion. At the time I was in the Army and was a severe alcoholic. The lyrics at the end was the cherry on top because she was fully aware of what she was willing to get into. I’ll never forget hearing her cry over the phone a couple years after we got married when I told her my chain of command signed off for me to get help at a rehabilitation center in Oregon. I got off of heroin through the same means to be able to join the Army so she was aware that I had already gone through a withdrawal process. 7 years clean of heroin, 3 years sober of alcohol. Thank you so much my dear Hannah for taking a chance with me. Thank you so much Lou for all of your work I’ve listened to ever since my father raised me with your art. We now have two beautiful children, I was able to successfully transition back into civilian life, and the future looks quite promising. Some folks can’t comprehend the power of art and music, but it’s a power that can’t possibly be denied.

I can't explain the nightmare I just went through searching for this song, the sense of relief I am feeling having found it, but I will try. I thought I was going fucking nuts. When all you can remember from this song is, "You just keep me hangin on," which only returns results for "You Keep Me Hangin On", a completely different song from the 1960s, and not at all what you're looking for. "Okay," you think, "I'll give it a listen and see if the song I'm looking for is some sort of modern cover." Fuckin' nope, not even close. You look through three pages of results, none of which have this song, and you honestly have no idea what you can do to refine a search for the only six words you remember from a song. At this point you begin to question your own sanity, is the song real at all? Did I get the words wrong in some small way that means I may never figure out what song I'm actually looking for? Am I doomed to be nervous and angry until by chance I suddenly figure out what song I've been looking for? You just want to break things, because in no way should it be this difficult to find a catchy song on the *internet!* WHERE IS IT?! Is there some kind of grand conspiracy to keep you from finding this song? Make you doubt your own mental faculties until you are left a dribbling, emotionally ruined shell of your former self? If you don't figure out what song this is, you aren't eating, you aren't going to bed, you aren't doing anything because now it's personal. *You* can't find this song, and if you can't find it that means you are wrong, and you know you aren't wrong. It's a horrifying paradox, you cannot give up or else every day that you live having not found that song will be a day lived in agony at the knowledge that you can never prove what you know to be real. Why even continue living? Anyway, I finally found it, by chance after a couple days. The real struggle is figuring out how I'm going to dispose of these bodies.

Ronson's piano is so strong, it completely lifts the song above and beyond. Ronson was recognised as a very talented arranger too. But you can't pull Bowie out of the equation. Reed, Ronson, Bolder all had more prominent careers because of their association with Bowie. As for the money, we all know that many 70s musicians were done down by their managers and this was the experience of Bowie, Ronson and Bolder with Tony Defries. Bowie ended up very wealthy due to his decision to manage himself and later through the creation of the Bowie bonds which allowed him to buy back his own back catalogue.

I met Mr Reed as an 18 year old hippie, DuPont Circle , summer of 69. I knew nothing about him except for what he told me, and I didn’t believe him. We spent the afternoon and night trying to score junk from DC’s local junkster, Beethoven, and his associates. I was all acid and a little speed. A new world for this dippy hippie. Cut to 1970 a friend and I were at a place where they were playing The Velvet Underground and Nico. Wow, that’s the guy....!Loved the album, a whole new level for me. Cut again to last night and I finally said, “I really need to listen to Perfect Day.” Never heard it before. What can I say. Another day, touched by Mr Reed, reaching back from one day and night in 1969. “You’re going to reap just what you sow” ... indeed. Thank you.

This is such a clever song. From the lyrics describing a mediocre life that's not too downtrodden but subtlety sad. Firmly hammered in by the chorus. Not only by instruments but by a slight voice break indicating a hidden struggle. Perfection.
@nneisler

It is indeed a clever song that combines a bright, upbeat melody with melancholic lyrics. The juxtaposition creates a unique and compelling listening experience, and the slightly strained vocals in the chorus do add to the emotional impact of the song. It's a great example of how music can communicate complex emotions and experiences in a way that words alone cannot.

Ronno the hidden gem in rock
@RiverRat_1977
8 ай бұрын
@barneyhansford411 Ronno composed, arranged (orchestrated), and conducted all of the piano and string parts, as well as playing that entire, lovely, and melancholic piano masterpiece that frames the entire song… Bowie only wrote most of the the lyrics and outlined some basic chords that Ronson filled in… not only with the full layout of the song, but he wrote the sheet music as well, which includes arranging all of the individual instruments, with their separate compositions within the song… Ronno also knew how to arrange the placement of all the different instruments in the studio for the proper balance of sound since he was a professionally trained musician, composer, and instrumental arranger (he also played the violin and mandolin). Ronno contributed to the lyrics as well according to Angie B!! Mick also did this to most of the other songs on the album, and only for a few bucks… thinking he was doing a favor for a friend and would be looked after and treated as an equal… but Bowie knew how to take advantage of him (just like he did to the Spiders…) Ronno also engineered most of the entire album (and parts of others), yet his name doesn’t show up on one credit since Bowie claimed them all for his own greedy narcissistic self!! Ronno gave Bowie his image during the Spiders from Mars period!! So without Mick Ronson David Bowie wouldn’t have received all the the attention and accolades he got… which were mostly due to Ronno… who (along with the other Spiders) was unceremoniously fired like a day labourer!! The D.A. Pennebaker movie shows everything Ronno did to encourage Bowie, and Bowie always played with him side by side as equal frontmen, when Ronno was the whole package behind the scenes!! Sometimes when I hear this song it angers me that Ronno didn’t get the credits, royalties, and the professional respect he deserved from Bowie. So whenever I hear this song (especially in Trainspotting) I think of Mick Ronson as the real mastermind behind the scenes!! (Brian Eno would never let Bowie take advantage of him, especially in such a disrespectful way)!! Bowie was just a leach!! He didn’t even visit his ‘friend’ and former partner when he was dying of cancer and begging friends for small jobs to keep a roof over his family’s head!! It’s a shame he was so disrespected by Bowie, as Ronno should’ve been one of the great composers and arrangers like John Williams, John Barry, Michael Kamen, etc. But Bowie deliberately held Ronno back and also wouldn’t let other people in his organization tell Ronno how much of an asset he was and what he really deserved and the position he held in creating David Bowie’s image and career!! The documentary “Beside Bowie” brings everything into the light, only it wasn’t made until after Mick had passed away (Ian Hunter was there helping to take care of his mate and make sure he had an income)! David Bowie didn’t even attend Ronno’s funeral, nor contribute a single penny to support Mick’s family and the monument they felt he deserved as recognition for his musical contributions that brought an element of fame to the small eastern seaside town of Kingston upon Hull in the County of Yorkshire in Northern England!

@@andie1508 Yes. But the problem is that the tolerance of many addicts have already been deplected by street fentanyl, so not even injecting those 8mg Dilaudid triangles are enough.
