I suppose appearances can be deceptive, but watching Billy Kyle perform he always appears to be a sweet-natured fellow. He certainly gave pleasure to many people and deserves to be remembered among the greats.

Fabulous swing tune and superb musicianship from Kyle, Barcelona and Shaw. Thanks for posting this delightful piece of history. I teared up watching this. I really miss musicians of this calibre these days. A remarkable era of first class musicians that cut their teeth in schools, colleges then big bands, then smaller groups led by icons like Armstrong. Todays musicians are well educated and technically there but not many can really swing like these cats did.

You can see how he dug it throughout his "rest period", whereas Louis mostly looked tired. But at the end, Satchmo could feel it.

This is one of my favorite tunes, especially since my husband passed. There are myriad versions of this, from Very sentimental to a jazzy version by Diana Krall. As much as I like her, I'm not crazy about her take on it. The best with lyrics is, in my opinion, the Linda Ronstadt version, especially because it includes the original opening stanza that used to be called the "verse". But for sheer instrumental joy. Billie Kyle has it all; not too sweet and not too jazzed up beyond it's meaning. In my next life, I wanna play a piano as hot and smooth as Billie could. Thanks for the GREAT post!

For a "straight" version, I'm rather fond of that of Gracie Fields. It's a wonderful tune. however it's done.

I'm really liking Nicki Parrott's version lately. Always use to see her play with Les Paul at the Iridium. She can definitely swing. kzitem.info/news/bejne/wH54mGFpaptnhGU

I have to add another perfect version. It's by HELEN TRAUBEL, a yesteryear operatic star. And, NO, it's not "operatic", too sticky or too jazzed up. Other than the fact that it doesn't include that old opening verse, it's the most straightforward, yet loving version I have ever heard. The words are sentimental enough, coming from an old Sigmund Romberg operetta and she very gently lets them speak for themselves. AN OUTSTANDING SURPRISE!
