A truly amazing experience. I never had a Cristal…but it’s good to know that it is more to the sweet style of Champagne 🍾

Tried the Cristal 2014 over Xmas and really enjoyed it. Definitely tasted very young and the added sweetness compared to Dom is very noticeable. Having drunk this so young, I don’t think I got to see this champagne at its best. Fair point on Ace of Spades. I haven’t tried yet but quite enjoy reading other people’s reviews on cellar tracker.

MM: it will be neat to drink older Cristal. Problem is it is so drinkable young that there is no real reason to wait. Cheers!

Yup. if you haven't tasted it, you can't really say you don't like it. simple as that. And especially in the wine world you *always* have to keep an open mind, since you never know where you will find those gems no-one knows about! ^_^

Good video. I’ve always found Cristal to be a distance third to Krug and DP but it is very good however (a little sweeter than my preferred style). I’ve never tried ace of spades, I’d actually like to try it I just don’t want to buy it myself and I’ve never seen anyone open a bottle lol. I’m curious about the DRC in the background!

Daniel: I personally like Cristal and Ace for drinking without food or light appetizers. Dom is more for heavier food. I don't have enough experience with Krug to really talk knowledgeably about it but I do like it tremendously. The DRC is from an old bottle. I believe I reviewed that wine about a year ago. Cheers!

Robert: I think many people drink very old or high end champagne way too cold. If it is that cold, almost any beverage will be inoffensive. Cheers!

I understand what you mean with the ace of spades and the fact that you can't say you don't like it if you never drank it. I think that the real problem is that it came from "nothing" and the price it's more marketing driven than others champagne in that price range. Others champagne for that price have history and have been famous for years, and that's part of why they are "prestige cuvee". Ace of spades came from almost nothing with a big price tag just becouse of marketing. I undstand peaple that when they have to spend theyr money on a prestige cuvee go for the trusted Crystal or Dom Perignon etc. instead of getting Ace of Spades. Nice video as always btw, keep it up!

Lorenzo: thank you for viewing my video and your comment. I get that it doesn't have history but many wineries who people love and are well respected only have 20 years of history. Look at Clos Apalta and Casa Lapastolle or Marojallia in Margaux. I agree that some of the price is marketing but you don't think Cristal or Rare also has some of its price attributed to its packaging or the marketing of the wine? I think the advantage I have is that I don't know the history of champagne and I just taste. I think sometimes if you know too much about the winery, the soils, etc, you have a pre conceived idea. I haven't seen any blind tastings of Ace...I am pretty sure most experts don't want to do it as if they are tricked it would ruin their credibility. Please like, subscribe and keep watching. Cheers!

I agree on a lot of your points. The difference to clos apalta or other wineries is that its not as usual to get a high price new winery in the old world like it is in the new word. Its the perception that changes in they way people think. In the old world it's common to think that a wine to get high prices needs to "prove" itself over the years and not to get out with a certain price point just because the vendor wants to be in that price range. I for sure agree on the blind tasting. I think ace of spades has been heavily criticised just for clicks on articles and not for the quality that often its not even assessed properly.

Make a negative judgment about a wine, based on scores and reviews from others, without having tasted the wine in question itself is of course very unwise and is in a way unreliable! Bad for your credibility and a bit stupid. But it happens and the urge to apply is often great. Without taking the time and effort to really delve into a wine. And perhaps the real experience and knowledge to say something useful about a wine is lacking. Admitting this is of course not sexy, but wanting to have an opinion! And preferably a negative in the case of 'Cristal'. Because that sounds cool. Completely wrongly of course! Let it be clear, if someone doesn't like 'Cristal', that can of course be said. Then base yourself on your own wine tasting experiences under different circumstances. Trying half a glass of 'Cristal' is just a start. It is also insufficient to base your opinion on this, especially if the glass is actually too small and the conditions are restless etc. Reliable wine tasting notes require more. My experience is careful with a final opinion on a wine (this also applies to 'Cristal'). At the end of December I will have the 'Cristal' 2012 on the wine tasting table. Tony, thank you for your reliable and educational tasting note of the 'Cristal 2014'. Cheers!

marcus: I always, I value your comments. Yes, I think the sexy thing is to put down unpopular wines or just to repeat what others say about a wine since it not confrontational. I am not saying you should be different for the sake of being different but if someone's views are 95% the same as everyone else's views, then it that really commentary or just passing on information. Cheers!
