@@MTNGear I don't think it would make much of a dent. The population of Louisiana is around 4M at 1,000 per 100,000 the incarceration rate would still be higher than Saudi.

Saudi Arabia keeps poverty rates relatively low through several key strategies: 1. Social welfare programs: The government provides extensive social support, including housing programs, health coverage, and unemployment benefits[1]. 2. Investment in human capital: Saudi Arabia focuses on strengthening its national economy by investing in education and skills development for its citizens[1]. 3. Zakat system: As an Islamic country, Saudi Arabia implements a mandatory charitable giving system (zakat) where individuals and corporations donate 2.5% of their wealth to help the poor[2]. 4. Direct cash transfers: The government has implemented programs like the Citizen Account Program to provide financial assistance to families in need, especially in response to economic reforms and subsidy cuts[2]. 5. Economic diversification: Vision 2030 aims to reduce dependence on oil and create more job opportunities across various sectors[2][4]. 6. Financial inclusion initiatives: The country has launched programs to reduce the number of unbanked individuals, with a particular emphasis on women[4]. 7. Poverty reduction strategies: Saudi Arabia has implemented targeted approaches to poverty reduction, including efforts to increase financial inclusion for underprivileged women[4]. While these measures have helped keep poverty rates low, it's important to note that some critics argue more structural changes are needed to address root causes of poverty and ensure long-term economic security for all citizens[2]. Reaganite/ Thatcherite laissez-faire in Kafkaesque full swing. Privatization of public institutions, like the US prison system, the so-called health care system, utilities et al, virtually handed to corporate vulture hedge funds, in the main. The depravity of US capitalism, feeding off the backs and the blood of the poor, the blacks, the vulnerable, knows has no compunction to wallow in these ammoral stinking depths. Not only in the US but everywhere across the world where it meddles for the sake of obscene filthy lucre. Louisiana = expanded Abu Graib. Thank you both gentlemen…. Both guest and host. Comrade Jenny

It's illogical to compare the United States to other countries. When you gather social norms, religions, family dynamics, drug dependencies, criminal laws, economics, you can't compare the two. So why would you use this type of comparison? It doesn't strengthen your argument. Maybe instead of comparing two countries, you should look at the country and then look specifically at Louisiana and say hey what are they doing that nobody else is doing ? How was this state different the than other states? What makes you Louisiana unique? Instead, you wanna fly halfway across the world and compare to Saudi Arabia of all places ? Night and day!

Authoritarianism is forcing everyone onto the same page, it has nothing to do with poverty, prison or general welfare, The US is as authoritarian as North Korea, we just have a higher standard of living and allow more social disorder because we can afford it Saudi Arabia and I think Qatar are some of. the happiest people and neither is a theocracy any more than ‘Christian’ America, Iran is a theocracy and despite their personalized criticisms, Iranians generally like it
