This was a marvelous respite in these difficult times.

Thank you, Kim. Really illuminating talk - and I loved the pictures! - it’s helpful to see some of those places ‘in the flesh’. Your comments about cottages made me laugh, & think of Robert Ferrars in Sense and Sensibility, who exposes his privileged stupidity in his talk with Elinor about cottages: “I am excessively fond of a cottage; there is always so much comfort, so much elegance about them. And I protest, if I had any money to spare, I should buy a little land and build one myself, within a short distance of London, where I might drive myself down at any time, and collect a few friends about me, and be happy … Some people imagine that there can be no accommodations, no space in a cottage; but this is all a mistake … if people do but know how to set about it, every comfort may be as well enjoyed in a cottage as in the most spacious dwelling.”
