There are different evolutionary aspects to addiction. The problem avoidance model is one example. But there's evolutionary advantage in being able to discard unnecessary information. Some drug models suggest that addicts tend to have brains that were reduced to lizard brain capacity, which involves prioritizing personal survival like food and reproduction. This tends to allow for a short term environmental awareness that allows the external environment to appear like a blank slate to be explored because the selfish nature of finding drugs doesn't tend to trigger spiritual involvement. The ability to make friends to just hang out with without the constant spiritual obligations in a vacuum like situation can often be avoided with drug use. The fact is money is about timing. If one has that then love or addiction doesn't even seem to be a factor in most decisions. In other words his argument about love being the opposite of addiction is fallacious. Sometimes love and addiction is both irrelevant to just being. Within that blank map involves respecting the schedules of ones self and others and tends to avoid the entitlement that spiritual vacuum assumptions tend to nurture as though it were natural for everything to be at one person's beck and call. But love in the small world that sometimes includes addiction allows love to be a fun vacation from the constant grind of spirituality in the normal world.

I was just typing a message about that experiment with the rats on given heroin on another video, which I then deleted before publishing... But I guess youtube is watching... It was about the two groups of rats given heroin, one miserable, deprived, and the other in a theme park for rats. Can you guess which one developed an addiction?

Really interesting framing. I agree, the alcohol effect is a narrowing of character. It makes maintaining decision sets that were previously easy, difficult. For some reason, when people see how expansive they are & how many mind games they play they cower, even in front of the mirror! This makes the flower with the beauty of the meadow susceptible to waning, in its desire to know the simplicity of its sister flowers. It may change it's color to that of a rose, however the fullness of the red in a rose does not change the colour red itself. The surface area possession of red is not important, what is important is that there is red in some increment, with a likely floor value. So the most diverse flower whose surface area meets all the minimum depth requirements for the spectrum of floral colours is the definition of the valley. It compresses the worth of the hillside into its component meaning. Love is the absence of over attachment. Which means love is also shredding someone with no compressable beauty.

What if you dont know how to love? He did a really far conceptual leap there at the end. Who is supposed to love, the addicted person or the people around the addicted person? Are you asking an addicted person to pull themselves up by the bootstraps by just starting to love themselves out of a dire situation? Seeing that Vervaeke has this line that he refers to as the ground principle for love where he says that you should learn how to love wisely, this type of reply is full blown mysticism -- it does not say anything in my estimation.

Good question! I think what John is trying to convey is to follow the example of those who love wisely. It's a tough act to follow...
