I just saw him in concert less than two weeks ago, he was great!!

It's hard to put into words how good the synth music was coming out of the 70's new wave and punk scene. With techno dance/ EDM being a thing for 30-plus years, it's kind of old school now, but it was so revolutionary in the early 80s.

Unique. I met him at a flying event, I was with my dad, who didn't know who he was. Gary was quite shy and was more animated when talking about aircraft and flying. He is still out there, putting good out great stuff

Gary Numan is the male equivalent of Kate Bush, there is no mistaking either of them when you hear one of their songs. A hugely underrated artist who was a true pioneer back in the day. Still touring and recording to this day although his new stuff is very different.

Believe it or not, I was in my early teens in the late 1970s, when I first saw Gary Newman, on Saturday Night Live. I hated disco, & was wishing for something different!!! And I got this!! Loved the change!!

Even better were his earlier Tubeway Army releases. "Praying To The Aliens", "Me! I Disconnect From You", "Are Friends Electric", "Listen To The Sirens", "Something's In The House".

Gary Numan was my go to artist for about 4 albums at the time. A real outsider. Blew my mind. My favourite from him is Me, I Disconnect From You, if you're interested. A lot of people might request Are friends Electric which is also great (and weird). Thanks for reacting to Cars. It was sure a game changer for me a long long time ago. By the way, I think this was 1979...

"Cars" was a huge worldwide hit back in the day. Among other places you may have seen it: The 2011 film "The Muppets" The 2019 Walmart Superbowl commercial featuring pop culture cars A large number of cover versions all over KZitem (the best is when he appears onstage with Nine Inch Nails)

This reminds me of later Kraftwerk. They are the pioneers of electronic music. They had 1 hit that made top 40, "Autobahn". It was only 3 or 4 minutes, but the full version was 20+ minutes. Check out Minimum Maximum concert. Yes most of it isn't good, but there are some that are great. I got started with this kind of music in the late 60's. Switched On Bach.

John Foxx took a lot of inspiration and direction from what Numan and Tubeway Army did, going from Ultravox to a solo career into electronica. "Pleasure Principal" was released in 1979 and "Metamatic" was released in 1980.

Pre 90s I really recommend listening to the song first, no video. Videos then were an afterthought. While the videos are cool, they do distract from the song itself.
