Knowing your neighbors is rare in sprawling, auto-centric Los Angeles. Especially in graduate school.
Knowing 40 neighbors is flat out supernatural.
Allelous -- Greek for "one another" -- is an intentional community of pastors, therapists, scholars, and missionaries. Most are students at Fuller Theological Seminary.
To be "intentional," they commit to eating together four times a week, going on quarterly retreats, performing acts of service to the community, and lavishing visitors with hospitality.
Call it the Jesuits Lite.
Allelous is home to married couples, singles, and children. Clergy and laity. Presbyterians, Mennonites, Episcopalians, charismatics, evangelicals. Americans, Asians, Africans, and islanders.
It is not a church as much as a vision of the church.
For four years, we were blessed to call Allelous home. Here are some of our fondest memories of community life.
