This is part of our 80s. Part of our history where still movies and music had a real and genuine meaning.....I love it

La primera vez que vi esta película tenía 16 años y fue en el cine club de mi instituto en bachiller (era la España de finales de los 80, ahora sería impensable con 16 años ver esta película). Me encantó....

This is without a doubt, a beautiful, heartbreaking love theme. Sad that so many people have misunderstood this film. Director Adrian Lyne has stated that this movie was indeed a love story, but John's fear of emotional intimacy (which he masked with control and the desire to play games) ultimately drove Elizabeth away. The only woman he ever loved. The terrible sequel, which Kim Basinger refused to reprise her role for, has two redeeming qualities - Mickey Rourke's performance (although this was the time when his looks were beginning to change due to plastic surgery) and the insight into John as a character. He did love Elizabeth, but he had trust issues and was afraid that he wasn't good enough for her. By the end, you know that John is lost without Elizabeth.

I lived through this. Had a very strong, emotional, sexual & intense relationship that only lasted two months and five days the first time around. We did this "dance" for three years until he admitted he cheated on me after promising me he'd love me forever. He told me at the place where he worked and I walked away quietly just like Elizabeth does, only I was driving in my car crying and screaming so hard I could barely see the road. IT KILLED ME!! About a year later he wanted me back and it took everything inside me not to go back to him. I didn't! Ironically Nine and a Half Weeks was playing at the theater at the time we were together and I begged him to go but he didn't want to see it for some reason. I saw it for the first time on cable after our break up and it knocked the wind out of me! I couldn't believe at the time that any one could love any one else the way I loved "him!" I felt like my life story was being told on screen. This was a very long, long, time ago. I've been married to a great guy for almost 30 years now but as the Bonnie Tyler song goes "every now and then I fall apart" and the memories and pain stop me right in my tracks. I've kept it all a secret, locked inside my heart, until now...

This movie just brought it back, and made my heart hurt. He married the woman who is 30 years younger than he is. God bless, you.

I watched this as soon as it came out on video many moons ago. I watched it over and over. I chased the soundtrack and bought it, but could not find the theme song until I found it on KZitem. Here I am much older still listening.
