This is still my favorite Lovebites song, it's just so epic and bombastic. It's about japanese Kamikaze pilots in WW2, so yes, you had a good observation about Asami looking more serious and reserved.

I saw an interview Asami did, and she said they were all very nervous except Haruna who couldn't see past her drums. Usually they'd played in dark areas so you couldn't see the crowd, but they performed in the afternoon where they could see everyone and Asami said nerves were very real. On the plus side, this set at Wacken basically won them their best new band award and got them noticed outside Japan as a legit band, not some gimick.

Miho really wanted to appear at WACKEN OPEN AIR. In other songs, even Miyako is headbanged. It's rare for all four to headbang at the same time. Everyone was nervous at first, and there were a lot of unusual mistakes, but the performance was full of soul.

Only nine months before this performance Lovebites played their first ever full length gig, not in Japan, but in London in a small club in London in front of around 500 people. And here they are less than year later playing at one of rhe premier metal festivals in font of thousands. What a trajectory ! You are right about classical influences in 'Under the Black Sea', Miyako who composed it includes references Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, one of her favourite compositions.

Above the Black Sea and Under the Red Sky are two songs that appeared in the Battle Against Damnation EP and are tied together, they are about the fighting in the front of the Pacific during World War II. That might be why they have a more solemn mood than usual. I love how raw this concert feels, and how nervous the girls are. For them playing at Wacken was a dream they accomplished that day, specially for Miho. PD: Both Miyako and Asami married and had a baby during this hiatus. And Midori is in fitness competitions now yeah, she just was in some japanese finals a couple of days ago. And the bass player, they just had the third and last audition on 30th of august, so I bet they already have chosen. They will need a bit of time to let the new lady adapt and let's go, if feels it is really close. Damn Lovebites and Babymetal are going to be back at the same time, 2023 is going to be a great year. Oh you have a lot of cool videos you have not done. Try with: - Break the Wall - We the United - Raise some Hell - Epilogue Just to name some of them.

I love this performance! The Wacken show was a short one, but if memory serves, they were the first band on the Headbanger's stage, one of the side stages, and were given a half hour just before noon on day four. They released this show only in DVD format on one of the versions of their third album, "Electric Pentagram." "Above the Black Sea" is the subject of a stubborn fan rumor that it's somehow part of a trilogy along with "The Apocalypse" and "Under the Red Sky," but it's not. Those two songs are specifically about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima while "Above the Black Sky" is about one of the several suicide units that Japan deployed during WWII, the kamikaze pilots. Plus Asami has said she wrote "Under the Red Sky" as a sequel to "The Apocalypse," so I'll take her at her word. At best, "Above the Black Sea" is a gaiden, a side story.

Now in retrospect I have to say, these 5 women wrote another interesting chapter in the historical records of heavy metal - in 2018 we stood in the audience and were amazed for minutes only in disbelief! This band was simply fantastic and one of our group didn't want to play his guitar for a few months - he was firmly convinced that after hearing these goddesses play "his instrument" his "strumming" would simply be blasphemy. That evening I was able to hear the - for me - best drummer of all decades of rock - live! Haruna has been my top 1 drummer since Wacken 2018, whether male or female, simply the best!

Perhaps the feeling of sadness in the behavior is due to the fact that Miho-san's father passed away during this tour in Europe. Those who follow the band from the beginning say that it happened before the shows in Germany (I don't know exactly) and even with the sad news, they decided to continue the tour. From this sad event came the song JOURNEY TO THE OTHER SIDE. (LINK BELOW) Composition by Miho-san in honor of her beloved Father, who, in her words, said that "With him I learned to play bass, like rock and taste good beers" kzitem.info/news/bejne/uXecuKqdint-nqA

If I remember correctly, the band was suddenly invited to be on stage due to a cancellation, and so they were a little nervous. All of the members have worked hard to improve, and you can tell Asami's voice is much stronger now, and she is more of the stage General than back then. The mix on this video wasn't great, but still a good song!

Your first sentence refers to a week after Wacken. Bloodstock in the UK, filling in for Suicidal Tendencies on Main Stage. Poor monitor-mix & lackluster recording, but excellent performance. Haruna mentioned as her favorite gig due to the biggest crowd/outdoor-festival they had played to that point. Asami at Wacken, after "The Hammer of Wrath" with one-breath soaring-outro > "The Crusade" > "Don't Bite The Dust" at the biggest Metal Festival in Europe, she mentions Battle Against Damnation EP & asks "you guys get it?"... then shuts-down the "LOVEBITES - LOVEBITES - ... " chant to ask "Are you guys ready?" ... Unsatisfied with the response, she takes charge, provoking her biggest foreign audience ever with, "I said..., ARE YOU GUYS READY!?" Satisfied, she turns & says, "let's go" to her bandmates. Seems sufficiently "in charge" to me. btw, in Anastasia's video the Wacken clip is in mono, not the excellent stereo mix of the source. She has the link in her description. 🐺

@@dregeye Thanks for clarifying the timing issue, I wasn't sure except I knew they had at some early point gone on stage earlier than anticipated. I will agree Asami talked to the crowd, but I will respectfully disagree she seemed "in charge" in comparison to later concerts. To me she seemed worried the crowd was not going to respond well. Regardless, it was Lovebites, pretty much all that matters :)

Long time no see, I'm glad you came back in a complete piece. Yes, they were nervous because Wacken was their dream came true. If you watch the whole album of this show, you'll notice the enthusiasm in the arena was swelling up from the beginning to the finale dramatically. This song sounds symphonic to you, yes naturally with your Russian root. This song is an homage to Piano Concerto No.2 by Rachmaninov, and Asami seems serious because the lyrics is about Kamikaze Pilots WW2. Under the Red Sky (about Atomic Bombs over Hirosima and Nagasaki) is also an homage to Symphony No.2 Rachmaninov too. Rachmaninov is Miyako's favorite composer. She has mentioned these pieces were her love letters to Rachmaninov in an interview.

Great comment, sums up the way they won over the crowd. I would just add some background on the song itself: it represents the thoughts of a Kamikaze pilot who is about to fly his fatal mission. It was one of three songs they did about the last days of WWII--the other two are about the atomic bombings. How many artists have the courage to take on subjects this excruciating? Another reason I respect this band so much.

LOVEBITES - Above the Black Sea lyrics: Age of oddities, suffocating with all of these strings pulling me Fit into the mold of this twisted world This is how it's ought to be Worshipped death and flight, sin to live the night Who are you supposed to be Higher and higher, higher than the Heavens Now's the time to pour your blood and heart into the sky Higher and higher, far above the Heavens Go beyond the silent clouds that promise nothing but the end Time to put an end to this nightmare Cause you have no choice in your hands Higher and higher, higher than the Heavens Now's the time to pour your blood and heart into the sky Higher and higher, far above the Heavens Go beyond the silent clouds that promise nothing but the end In a moment I'll fade away As long as he will bring us a new day I will take this in as my fate Just let me leave something proving my life In a moment I'll fade away As long as he will bring you a new day I am thankful this was my fate Just let me leave reason to my life ----- lyrics: asami music: miyako arrangement: LOVEBITES (miho, haruna, midori, miyako, asami)

Bass player is imminent, but I think they are taking the time to assess their direction going forward, because Haruna asked fans for their favourite, more recent songs on twitter recently. So either one particular aspect of their catalogue favours one potential bassist over another or, more likely, they want to come back with a definite direction in mind. One thing is certain, they won’t be ditching the Greek Goddess costume anytime soon because Miyako live-streamed her bespoke new guitar strap on Instagram yesterday….and it’s a perfect match for the dresses. She is such a relaxed, chilled person, it came through on the livestream. I’ve been watching and waiting for you to come back to the ladies, but you are only barely a third of the way through their catalogue, so there are PLENTY more to choose from. I’m sure there will be umpteen suggestions right here as I type.
