A terrific review!! Thank you so much for taking the time and effort, really appreciate it - and great timing with the sale right now :DD Yes haha even I forget what some of the spell names mean from time to time - but it still makes me smile when a player yells out "Crush of the Warp!" as opposed to "Hold Person!" :D You know it never occurred to me about the descending AC - I think we might have missed an opportunity there!

Great job on the review. I appreciate that you dive right in without unnecessary blather that so many reviews have. You also did a great job hitting the differentiators of the system right off and stressing that in the review. That makes this review a lot more useful than many that I have listened to. Great style, thank you

I fell in love with this game just from the free basic version. It’s surprisingly dense and has some interesting mechanics. Even if you prefer high fantasy games this would work well. Great review.

Thanks for the review. My own feedback - the spell name changes were annoying. It just adds to my workload as a GM. Also, I'd love to have seen a smaller player's guide. It's a pretty big ask for my players to go out and buy a 280+ page book when they only need a fraction of it. It's a bit of a daunting ask for a long-time D&D DM to switch systems, but that's exactly what I'm looking to do, and I really like the flavor and mechanics of this - I just want it to be as painless as possible, and there's definitely areas in here where they could have done a better job of that. Overall, really do like it, though.

I really like this rule set, altho not the roll-under ability checks and dangerous magic stuff. Spell failure is something i associate with “komedy wizzerds” in kids' movies. That's easy to leave out, tho, & enjoy the sensible feats and other mechanics. It takes a lot of restraint to make a really good fantasy RPG, & the two usual choices do not practice restraint. Also, the art is terrific!

So…what I’m reading is…you wouldn’t run this system but there are a couple things you’d cherry pick from it. I mean, Dark and Dangerous Magic (because it’s rare and scary) and the roll under mechanics pretty much are the system. What did you like about it?
@windmark8040

Yeah, didn't like the spell name changes. It would've been more convenient if they listed the spell's "Common" name, with LFG's flavor name next to it.

Hmm. I got forbidden lands for Christmas and am impressed with it. I don’t think it’s better, just different. I REALLY like the luck mechanic in LFG. The design of forbidden lands is stellar in its old school minimalism, though.

I thought it it would be "low fantasy". What I joke. ALL spells caster must make automatically rolls against a table. A few of results: "your fingers turns inti tentacles" or you spout 2 inch, blackened tusks from your jaw". What a joke about "low fantasty"

@@DMTalesTTRPG Yes, I was somewhat not nice. Once I got over the "Dark and Dangerous Magic" table I wrote a glowing review in DriveThruRPG. But, what they promised "low fantasy" magic isn't what I'd expected.

Excellent review - I subscribed! Low Fantasy Gaming is a really good game not far from 5e but it's exactly what I was looking for in a D&D. I wanted something more dangerpous, less heroic, less high fantasy, not an OSR, a game with enough player customization and less power gaming. I got interested with the new rules to reduce the power of magic/divine spells, and also to give options to customize each characters with abilities, they won't be all clones and feel unique (something that I found was a problem in 5e). Some of the rules brought more improvisation around the table by using OSR style combat where player can explain a bonus action they want to do on a succesful hit (action like, blind, disarm, push...). Our combats became more interesting and a little bit more involving since other players could make move to react to an attack or a triggered traps by using one of the new rule. It's a great sword & sorcery setting. They have published tons of adventures that can be completed 1-2 sessions. I created a cheat sheet that summarize all rules: drive.google.com/file/d/12d_m2aMw97D4eyDv5huf58CQlWVAGnL2/view?usp=sharing
