Dude. That tip about not worrying about opening the face at ground parallel is game changing. Since I went and got lessons from my local pro I have some better fundamentals but I have struggled with closing the face consistently because he has me opening it straight up. I will be trying out the cupped wrists thing next time I go to the range. This is why I watch this channel.

This was world class. Well done TXG team! It’s funny, I went in to get fit for T100S and Pro 223 this week. It was a coin flip but I ultimately went with the Pro 223 head with Modus3 Tour 120 shaft. I preferred the compact shape and feel/feedback of the T100S but the ever so slightly larger head of the Pro 223 gave me just a little more piece of mind in the forgiveness department. A combo T100S/T200 set would have been awesome though.

Like someone else I saw in the comments, I had a similar delivery and dynamic loft and had made a similar change (and strengthened my grip some eventually and flattened my lie angles); and it most certainly similarly benefited me. But I know I'm still leaving some on the table with my current irons, so it was great not just to see what they tried and what worked for Ryan, but more so to hear the explanations of the why. I know I might reach a somewhat different outcome given all the variables, but the insights are so helpful in a general sense as I look to get fit with irons to better compliment my own (in this case very similar) delivery. Thank you Ian, Mike and Ryan.

Love the video, so relatable swing wise. I was fit for both T100S and 225's and went Mizuno mostly on the basis of confidence in the head size as the Titleist do look a bit intimidating in the lower irons and I couldn't get my head round the plastic back on the T200 for a combo set. Having to change to graphite due to joint issues so really looking forward to the blue box day in a week or so. Much as I love watching Ian and Matty its nice too see someone who swings similar to myself and what the right fit and a little tip can do for you. Great job guys, can you do the same for the driver? 19 launch for a 7 iron isn’t so bad. The 8800 spin is incredibly weird. Bring your shaft parallel to the ground and look in the mirror, is your club head the same as your spine angle or open? You may also be taking the club on the inside too much.

For golfers who need maximum shock absorption and who want a heavier shaft that has a “steel-like feel and performance “, I have been creating my own version of the AMT concept by using the KBS TGI graphite shafts, beginning with the 80, 90, or 95 gram shafts in the longest irons (depending on the golfer’s strength and clubhead speed) and progressing to TGI 100 or 110 in their wedges. I have done this for myself (TGI 80 in the 5 through 9 irons, TGI 90 in my PW, and TGI 95 to 100 in my more lofted wedges), and it works great. I like the AMT steel for Ryan, as long as it doesn’t exacerbate the elbow pain.

Question: I was fitting for Titleist T300 with the AMT Red shaft. and they are fantastic. I came across some, at a great price, T200 with AMT Black shafts. My question is I'm a 5 HDCP with a very low ball flight and it seem to me with the T300 my gap between 8 iron and 7 iron is very wide and the feel from 8 to PW is more erratic than with the ZX7's I had previously. Do you think it might be better to try and make a combo set out of the T200 and the T330? Thank you, look forward to hearing about this.

Ryan, it looks like you borrowed my swing! I’m probably 2.5x your age, and hit my 6-iron maybe 5 to 7 yards shorter than you do, but my impact, launch, and ball flight are virtually identical to yours. Just like your one miss with your current 6-iron, when I do miss it generally results in a pull that travels 15 to 20 yards further than expected.
@justinstephenson9360

Odd this could have been me a couple of years ago. I mangled my lead wrist at university - you know its bad when the doctor tells you they haven't seen that type of injury for a long time (either that or you have some very "original" bedroom habits!) - the net result is that 35 years later I still have flexibility issues. Like RB my grip was a bit weak. Coach got me to imagine I was using a DJ bowed wrist, it felt so weird and I definitely thought I was bowing the wrist like DJ...then he showed me what was actually happening on video, absolutely no bow, but also no cupping of the wrist. That really straightened out my iron shots. Admittedly I cannot swing the club as fast as RB, his 6i swing is c.8-9mph faster than me and as I carry the ball c.160-165 yards with a 6i he should be carrying 185 yards.
@Talesofthegrape

Atta boy RB! See like I said, just a couple swing adjustments more than full blown tear down and rebuild. Instantly 20 yards extra, you’re compressing the ball and not relying on as much timing to get the ball near the hole.

I can totally relate! "Struggle in the wind", struggle with high floaty shots, even though I have plenty of club head speed. I've been a functional flipper for ever. Good tips about grip, hand, and club face orientation at setup and backswing. It seemed like he was hitting out of the heel of the clubface most of the fitting (obviously costing strike efficiency and distance). After going flatter clubhead lie his contact location improved, and as a result his ball speed and distance. It seemed like a disservice to the other clubs to not test them with equally flatter lie angles and see if contact and distance improved on them as well. Why did you choose to do the lie angle fitting late in the process instead of in the early part?

Did he say that he struggled with trail wrist radial/extension? If so would strengthening the left hand not be a better grip to reduce the extra required trail wrist extension in backswing needed when going into large amounts of lead wrist flexion?And this may then mean he doesn't need to close the face down so hard in the release? Or is there a reason would struggle physically to have a stronger left hand grip?
