Driving through fog seems tough, right? CHALLENGE ROUND, flying a jet through fog to land on a constantly moving runway in the middle of the northern Pacific!!!
had a day like that near Lajes back in 2003 on the way home from deployment... I was on the bridge and an F-18 came out of the fog too far to the left.. had to knife edge out to avoid hitting the tower... I swear that if I could have reached thru the glass I could have touched his landing gear. Those days are SUPER sketchy... we got all 11 of that event aboard, but it took something like 34 passes. Noone got aboard on the first try. The LSOs earned their keep that day.

@cynthiasheridan3001 There was one storm a few weeks before when I didn’t have my GoPro on. I was right under the tower, and one of the jets has that same thing happen right over my head. I would not have escaped before getting hit. What was your rate?

@@ABEMarzo I was an ENS/LTJG in my HST days.. I was the ATO and on the Bridge Team. Retired as an 1835 in 2022. But my HST flight jacket has the "Give 'em Hell" AB wings patch on it. The Air Dept LCPO left it on my keyboard after giving quite the ration of shit for not already having one. I protested that I was not an AB nor was I even in the Air dept.. I guess when an ABCM gives you that patch, you can call yourself honorary though. :-) I wore that patch with great pride and then had it put in my shadow box.

That is the perfect place for it to end up. I took my green gear from the flight deck, and I’m going to have that as background display in future videos.

I have been a happy airline pilot for 35 years……one thing I will always miss ( would I have been able to do it ?? ) is being a naval aviator. Air Force is c..p 😅😅😅

I sadly never got to get behind the controls of an F-18, but I have gotten very close to them. Sometimes not even by choice. 😂😅

I doubt it. You really need pilot and LSO close contact for carrier landings in these conditions. There may be an autopilot flying most of the approach, but in close you want the pilot and the LSO to be talking to each other a lot. Witness all the "close in" waveoffs", which is kind of scary. Not sure why there are so many.
