I have a 1972 Epiphone F150 POS that was gifted to me on my Bday in 1972. The action was so extreme as to be unplayable. The zero fret and the bridge placement would not allow the guitar to be in tune once you played past the 3rd fret. The guitar is a treasured gift and I could not part with it so it sat in the case for 15 years with the strings under tension. When I opened the case 5 years ago the neck swung up and smashed the top because the top brace had fallen away and there was nothing to prevent the damage. Back into the case it went. Over the last year I have repaired the damage and now trying to get the action lower than the 3/8th inch that it came with. New nut &,saddle and a bridge shave. This video is a big help because today I am going to ream bridge pin hole to accept ebony pins. Thanks!

He has the saddle in the wrong direction, he put the saddle into the bridge slot for a right handed guitar, but stringed the guitar for a left handed. So on the saddle where the low E string would cross the saddle he has the high E string crossing the saddle.

You have slotted your bridge already at 90 degree angle. So put the bridge pin backwards to have it unslotted.

I think a neck reset may have been the better choice. Lowering the saddle helps the action but it may eventually cause the neck to to be reset on a guitar that otherwise would have never needed it or decrease the time you have before needing a neck reset.

Guitars used to have the bridge slotted.. that's the right way for resonance and a good break angle.. the bridge pins should not be slotted.. but they usually are now because that's easier and cheaper. Dude you sound like the ticket scalper in fast times at Ridgemont high. Lol

Never seen your videos before. I got a used simon and patrick recently that I'm upgrading and cleaning up, and on that model they are already slotted from the factory to increase the break angle. Even if your guitar already has a good break angle, this could be a good idea. That's maybe the smallest saddle I have ever seen! Why is the action so high? Does the guitar need a neck reset?

Hi & welcome. I closed my old channel down about a year ago but I've been around on YT since 2006. The AI kept my videos from showing up imo cause I don't comply to YT standards. I got 3 guitars from this company all the guitars needed neck resets but being they were $90-$100 I didn't want to go through the hassle. I spoke with the company several x's & they said I was too picky & these are production guitars. I said you know Epiphone & Squier are production too right? I said you should adjust your jig but in 1 ear out the other. Others swear the guitars they got are good. I doubt that unless they're slide players. Ashthorpe took over the other company that made these & they use to sell for $59.99 but being everyone hyped them up the price went up. I kept these & made them playable due to the fact it's hard to find lefties. I'm a righty originally but I'm re-learning lefty. Over the winter I stopped in my local music store as they stepping their game up & I looked at a Washburn & some others. I seen the same problems. Everything is just not being made right these days. But yea I agree even with a good break angle I would slot it.

When I got the 2nd one in & it was worse then the 1st along with the company telling me I'm too picky these are mass produced I flipped. I'm still on the hunt for one that's under $300.00 that'll be better. Great tip on detuning.

So the truss rod never helped with adjusting the action? Or what am I missing ?
@TheCleaner6969
Жыл бұрын
I seen a lot of people try & use the truss rod to adjust the action but that's not what it's for. The truss rod is for setting the relief. First thing I do is capo the 1st fret & fret the last fret then check with a 0.010" "Feeler Gauge" at the 7th fret (On Acoustic) for your relief. Then I like to use a 0.024 "Feeler Gauge" under each string on "1st Fret" there should be no space & the "Feeler Gauge" should not lift the strings in either place just slight drag. I measure at 12th fret, write the "Action Height" down on the "Low E" & "High E" then file the "Saddle" down for what you like for your action. But in the case of all 3 of these guitars the necks were set incorrect & I could not achieve the action height. It was like 10/32" & 9/32" And instead of resetting the neck I needed to sand the bridge down along with the nut to get my action to 3/32" & 2/32". I have several videos on here showing the process. Hope that helps clear things up.

Good Video . In my OPINION acoustic guitars in general are horrible designs . why can't that stupid saddle & bridge that we have to sand down, & lower the action gotta be made like this, why can't they build those like electric guitars like the Gibson type bridges that we can lower the action ,& intonate like an electric guitar ? I own 2 acoustics of which I think are horrible. I will never ever buy another acoustic ever again, because they cause way too much drama; we gotta worry about them cracking ,& the damn neck design is horrible unlike a bolt on which can be reset & removed. Man, the acoustic design is the worst design ever invented by Man kind.

Check out the Yairi line. They do saddles like nobody else. The pins go directly into a piece of solid ebony on the guitar body. Not the saddle. So no issues of saddles popping off. The sound resonates directly into the top of the guitar, not the saddle.
