Was this the 22nd of September, 2006? I think that's the day I had taped an episode of Tyra Banks Show and I had taken a nap and woke up with the skies all cloudy and dark and the nearby park's sirens went off seconds after I woke up. (First time I know of the sirens near our house going off because of a warning and not usual monthly drills!) Then I turned on the radio. I live in Chicago, btw.

chicago has storms like these very rarely, however, the city does frequently see severe thunderstorms.. especially during the late summer weeks. I nearly was killed as the storm passed by my bus stop. At the end of the bus ride I got off.. and like 2 seconds later the winds smashed into me. I was nearly killed my falling tree branches as I ran for my house.

nice footage of a wall cloud then waterspout, but mostly, you really got GREAT footage of the RFD (rear flank downdraft) the backside of the "hook"... a SUPER dangerous place to be if you're driving in a supercell T-storm. You saw what is RIGHT in front of the RFD..a tornado. Rule #1 in tornado chasing. You can't see it, don't chase it.

The tornado was first identified by Doppler radar above the international tournament at O'Hare. The Weather Service followed it as it moved nearly northeast through the city and as it neared Lake Michigan for the first time activated the entire siren warning system in the City of Chicago. I was on the South Side at the University of Chicago and we saw a funnel cloud moving over 59th Street and Woodlawn Avenue above Rockefeller Chapel. Visitors from Europe asked us, "What are the sirens?" Had the tornado touched down even a block west of where it reached earth major damage would have occurred.

Weather Service had tracked this storm from being first spotted on radio above the terminals at O'Hare Airport. As the storm moved eastward toward Lake Chicago it was closely monitored and finally, for the first time in the city's history, the Tornado Sirens were sounded all over the city. It was a breathtaking moment, especially when heard in the bustling Loop. Great video exists of that moment. The funnel hit ground at Lake Shore Drive and the Loyola campus just short of the Lake.
@rosecomer9468

There were no tornado sirens in the background of this video because the sirens didn't go off. And that is Lake Michigan. And why would tornado sirens be needed on the West Side or South Side of Chicago for a tornado over Rogers Park and the lake?

That was a gale storm, not a tornado. We can get 80-95 mph winds. We can't get tornadoes.
