Day 2 of the trips for the Land-Rover 75th Birthday celebrations in Wanaka, New Zealand.
In 2021 the vehicle numbers for the 'OXFORD' rally were restricted to 80 per safari, so to enable more Land-Rovers to participate Rod Corbett decided for the 75th - that the safaris would be graded to LONG and SHORT runs, which referred to the distance covered - not the duration, with the LONG runs better suited for the later models and the SHORT runs aimed at the ‘Series’ Land-Rovers.
This trip was the SHORT run up the western side of Lake Hawea - directly across the lake from yesterdays trip - but an entirely different terrain.
Bit of a stuff up with this video. I installed the video camera in the morning and placed the camera lens hard up against the windscreen. It is important to have the lens as close as possible to the glass to reduce reflection when driving into the sun - but unfortunately, the lens was pressing against the glass, so was bouncing off it all day. This produced a sound like a radioactive Geiger counter noise, which was not audible in the vehicle, but since the lens is right next to the microphone it is really loud on the video, so most of the video has had to be produced with no sound.
