To get the best bang for your buck gen 3 lq4 + 862 Heads will give you a 10.5:1 compression ratio with smaller combustion chamber with a more responsive performance curve....
Thanks for the shout out! That's an awesome list you put together there!

JR is full of great info. I have a spare 6.0 I swapped out the 317’s for some 862’s and added a ss3 Elgin 1841-p cam. Engine is still on the stand, I won’t be installing it til March. I’m not sure what to expect for HP.... maybe 425-450 at the crank?🤷♀️ Still better than 300 factory. Should make my Mustang GT better than it was😜

JDE yeah, I like the older foxbody’s. I bought it as a roller with the intention of a LS swap.

So the ls1 heads on a lq9 will be good for turbo applications? A friend is trying to sell me ls1 heads, ported and polished with double valve springs , all completed and assembled for 500 bucks, shop wants 1300 to do basically the same on my lq9 heads and gonna be like few weeks to get it done and kinda wanna get the car done asap. Just wanna make sure those heads will be decent to get 800-850hp.

@@1PatientHello I own a Chevrolet express 6.0 LQ4 with 90,000 miles, I live in France in a region where the climate is temperate, I do 6000 miles per year, I drive mainly in the summer, and I tow a 6000 lbs trailer, should I stick to the oil recommended by the manufacturer 5W30 or can I use a 5W40 for example???

317s flow better than the 862 also the 862s really have a 65cc combustion chamber I think it’s best just to mill down the 317s for a budget build

@@1Patient fel-pro shows a .48 thickness, and GM shows .51, also seen one at .054. All of them are alternate part numbers. Goal is to stay running 87 octane if I could. Do you recall your gasket thickness?

If you have the notched 862 heads you will need to get the notched gasket set for it, the regular headgasket for all the flat no notched heads will cause problems and leaks, i found that out the hard way bud. Part number Mahle 5.3/5.7 MLS Head Gasket (Single) #168-54442, but check the see if your heads are flat all the way across or have that notch on the outer edge closer exhaust side. If you do then you need this type of gasket if you dont then you can get the regular ls gasket for your heads
