@Marshmallowrex because it is not meant for it, but there are ways around it, you can't just throw a vtec head on and think your motor is going to last for a long time so you need to get some other parts if you want it reliable and long term use
@MrSlowestD16

@93dajjdg 2 years isn't long compared to the 19 years current D16Z6's/B18B/A's are lasting. I'll add ellipses for sarcastic effect: ........ It's not a matter of the engine crapping itself, it's more-so that the bottom end isn't meant to spin at that high RPM, continuous doing so will prematurely wear out the internals at some point. The OP had the rods hardened, is using ARP rod bolts, while the whole thing was blue-printed/balanced on assembly. That changes the game quite a bit...

I put about 30-40 k hard miles on the engine before pulling it from the da. I haven't ran the engine since 2011 but do still have it and it's still ran just as strong when I pulled it!

Is it dyno tuned or on a base map? I have a da also lsv bone stock b16 head all internals are stock besides arp rod bolts and acl bearings. I'm running a chipped p 28 with a b.s basemap and my da Is definitely faster not trying to be an a**hole but since it's your build you know what you got go get it tuned or if it is on a basemap and tuned did u run a compression test? Mine has been abused fot quite some time only God knows how many miles are on it and I put 20k on it with the first 15k being in a eg 4 door just a chipped 28 and it was faster I was able to keep up with g37 on Highway runs now in the da it's tuned putting down 176hp and 138tq and I can run head to head with a stock speed 3 stock srt4 and just ran a 5.5 gen maxima fully gutted with full bolt ons and he had semi and I still got him by a fender but 1/4 mile was weird I was running 13.8-14.1 on semi and he was running consistent 13.4 13.5
@rsxking04

it's not the rods or crank. rods are good up to about 450-500hp. The LS crank is actually better than GSR's. it's the stock ls rod bolts that give up when you're revving high. they're the same bolts used in d-series that's why you should always upgrade the rod bolts to ARP's whenever you do an LS/VTEC conversion.

@MrSlowestD16 What? all i said was ive had mine for 2 yrs and its still going... i never said or implied that a stock ls bottom end can rev high all day, thats why i mentioned having a built motor. Any motor can be reliable as long as you build it right.
@IIIDEMONiiiZe

is this because of the b17 cams ? can you keep the stock b16's in ther ?
@MrSlowestD16

@OP: That guy is write, though. I'm glad you and your boy's LS/V lasted a year...but they're probably not going to last as long (anywhere near it) as a stock H/A motor. The plain and simple fact that the LS/V's bottom end can't hold up to that high RPM at the power it's outputting. I've seen too many LS/V's with slung rods because somebody slapped a B16A2 head on it and thought it was good for 8k.

@5hift6ear

You need better cams/valvetrain to take advantage of the higher compression from the P30's, you need a better header with at least a 2.5" collector, and a proper street + dyno tune.
@MrSlowestD16
13 жыл бұрын
@93dajjdg If your engine was built to withstand more power and/or higher revs, then that kind of negates the point of it not holding up to high revs in stock form, no? Saying you have an LS/VTEC and it's still running fine after 2 years doesn't really hold any water against the "you can't rev a stock LS block that high continuously and expect it to last" point if it's built.

@93dajjdg Yeah. I just mentioned it (originally) because it's a common misconception with newbs and the LS/VTECs that you can just slap a B16A2 head on it, and wind it out to 8k, then the people sit there and wonder why they have slung rods and call the LS/VTEC unreliable.

@IntegraDA9JDM I suppose with the hardening and the rod bolts it'll definitely increase longevity. I would still argue that the overall longevity wouldn't be that of a standard H/A motor if it's always wound out to those revs. Though the LS/V's don't output a lot of power so you still have whatever buffer they gave the rods for the LS from the factory, so it'll probably hold up pretty decent. If it were my build though I'd go with aftermarket rods at some point or another, though.
