Its easy to get power down on a track but on the street not so much. I Feel for you truck guys traction is always the struggle. I would imagine some nitto 285-315 tires Would help. I dont envy you if you decide to get a stall convertor (2800-3500). Then the real spinning will begin. I think the lower displacement could play into your favor ( less torque to cause spinning haha) I would do as tuner said on valve springs and while at it put a cam that will make power to 7000rpm. Then attack suspension. A mid 12s street driven truck is very impressive to me.. Awesome Job

Excellent work as always LT! I’m always impressed with your level of detail. Thank you for sharing all the knowledge and experience on these builds. Do you have plans to beef up the 8.6” 10 bolt? I have a 1994 K1500 with a F.I. 383. For years I’ve been kicking around the next power plant & drivetrain to build for it. I’ve contemplated 6.0L-4L80, 8100-Allison, (if I was spending someone else’s money LSX 454-4L80) or maybe Cummins but that would require a straight axle conversion and so much additional weight would negatively impact GVWR. Seeing your builds, in-depth knowledge and detailed results is helping me decide this future build.
@LawrenceTolman
2 жыл бұрын
so far, the 10-bolt has a truetrac and 4.30s, but no plans to do anything further, especially since now 38% of the torque will be going to the front which helps take some of the stress away from the rear. The same exact axle is holding up to my extended cab truck with 900lb.ft. of torque at the wheels, so this one will be perfect

My new tailgate latches did that too. I don't have a fix to the latching issue, but if you put a screw driver under the handle you can push left or right (left on the left side, right on the right side) it will force the engagement of the latch. It's part of my locking up routine when I close it lol. Annoying but effective.

Tune the pcm with the 91octane, then add water methanol injection. It will lower your iat on pumped gas and less work in the long run. I have a kit on my daily tahoe, 5.3 with basic boltons, my iat in summer will go from 50c to 24c at wot. That means I get winter performance all summer long.

Depends if he has a rising boost curve or not. If you go back to the video he did of the 4.8 dyno after the rebuild, it is signed off by 6k. So unless the blower is huffing more in after that it is pointless to go more than 6.5 unless you are trying to drop your shift in AFTER tq peak to save the 4LglassE

I am just drooling. I love my avalanche but it's 5.3 is just underpowered for the towing I do so I bought a 2007 Escalade EXT with the 6.2. Great torquey truck but. No issues towing my loads but it's just not responsive, it's even heavier and the seats aren't comfortable, my Avalanche also has a 6" lift. I actually enjoy driving the 05 Avalanche more so my thought went to a 6.2l swap or forced induction to give me more torque for the hills. Turbo's are out because the crossover pipe sits too low. This is an offroad truck as well. A full engine swap is a bit of a PITA but I no longer have a shop. The LSA I can install in my driveway without too much problem. This is confirming my thoughts.
@PetesGarageandperformance
2 жыл бұрын
The torque from these LSA setups make them feel like a big block. I bet you can easily run higher timing and gain a ton or power. Every engine is different but I’ve been able to run 15-18 degrees on 91 and have no knock. If you put a larger intercooler reservoir in there it would slow down the IAT gain. My reservoir holds a little over a gallon and my IAT’s don’t climb quite that fast. But my heat exchanger is also a little bigger. My buddy with a 4.8 lsa setup put out 495 hp to the tires. I think on similar boost as you.

Sounds like AWD will be the winner. My 93 S10 Blazer with a Vortec 4.3 V6 was 8.1 0-60. After e-fan, better intake/filter, shorty headers, and cat back exhaust it was at 7.0 0-60. My old LT1 Camaro was traction limited to 5.6 0-60. The COPO should be way faster than a V6 or old Camaro. Maybe you should have moved the battery to the back by the passenger taillight;) Great stuff!

There’s a theory that you can comparatively get a lot more out of a stock boosted smaller capacity engine before things start to pack it in than from a much larger engine . Unless the rods are a lot weaker you should be able to push them much further and rev them higher thus getting a lot more power. Need Richard Holdner to destroy a few engines to test this theory.

Tuner kids and their Honda’s have shown this for years, although that may be sacrilegious on this channel. Advertised HP & trq numbers on a window sticker only tell part of the story. I worked at a GM dealership when these trucks were being produced. All stock and all other things being equal my experience was a 4.8l would edge out a 5.3l but it was working for it. Increase the weight, load or a few mods and the 5.3l would quickly wake up and out perform the 4.8l (Tuning, tuning, tuning) At the same time we would take delivery of back to back SSRs and corvettes with LS2s. The window stickers advertised +15 HP for models with 6 speed manuals but most of the time the automatic’s would run significantly stronger. I didn’t have a draggy and we didn’t dyno test them so I don’t have actual proof of facts but the seat of the pants feel was substantial.
