I'm gathering as many reviews as I can find. While my yard is small and takes less than an hour to mow normally, I have a leg that is getting worse and I just can't do the mowing. So far, the Luba seems to be the champ.

It'll be interesting to see how this mower pans out for you and to see where it's strengths and weaknesses lie and what adjustments you make for it over time. I'm sure that over time you'll make changes to how you go about it here and there until you figure out what works best and most efficiently so it'll be interesting to follow along. 👍

Please do an update in a couple months and let us know any snags you might have come across. I’m in Charlotte, NC so our weather is similar. I’m wondering if there might be any effects by heat or moisture with these. Love the video!

I actually enjoyed mowing the lawn, even during the rainy season which means mowing twice a week. So, I can't imagine paying thousands of dollars for a robot to remove that quantum of solace from my life. Now, if someone were to develop a robot to remove palm fronds, cut them up and place them in a barrel, that might be a temptation I could resist.

Are you still using the Luba. If so an update (comment or video) would be interesting!

You have a lot of good insights here. After watching your review of the Luba and several others, it seems like a very good first effort hampered by not-quite-baked software and iffy satellite acquisition. I currently have a Husqvarna 450xh that is less sophisticated and efficient, but just works without being fiddly. I'd happily move to the Luba or similar if I thought they'd get to the set-it-and-forget-it capabilities of the wired automowers. I suspect those models are just over the horizon.

This review never touched on the most important aspect of this GPS guided Mower and there was relevant & important info that was omitted or misreported. The placement of the Reference Antenna & Charging Station relative to nearby Structures, Trees, Fences, Power Lines etc, is critical, especially for Lawns that wrap around a House, Garage, Landscaping features etc. Both the RTK Reference Antenna (Real Time Kinematics) And the Luba Mower are GPS signal receivers, one is stationary, one moves. The Ref Antenna and Mower stay in constant communication w/ each other to compare GPS signals. Both must "see" (be in Good communication with) at least 20 Satellites out of the 31 Sat's that make up the GNSS GPS Satellite systems. GPS signals are weakened easily by nearby Structures, Trees, Fences, High ground/rocks, Power lines and if less than 20 Satellites are "seen" by either, the Mower stops and shows a "Positioning Error" within the App. If the Ref Antenna is properly located, then it's the moving Mower that usually experiences weakened GPS signals when it drives near one of these structures. I own a Luba 3000 (it's onboard memory retains enough GPS location info to cut 3000 sq meters of Lawn) and recommend for those considering dropping the $2K dollar+ pricetag of this Mower, to grab a Free download of the Luba User Manual from the Mammotion website. Give close consideration to the RTK Antenna and Charging Station location requirements. If you've located either the Antenna or Charge Station too close to structures that weaken GPS signals, and you relocate either one, you'll have to Re-map all your mowing Zones and No-Go Zones.

all mowers wear out over time. The question is how quickly that will happen to a Luba and if it can be user repaired...

Luba has no anti-theft, that's bs, there is no way it will lost 10 years or more like a gas lawn mower. I watched a lot of videos about Luba and it is a cool technology .....

If it last 3-5 I'll be happy. No way the batteries last that long with decent capacity even if the mechanics do. I'm not really comparing it to the price of a mower. I'm comparing it to the price/cost of weekly service if I didn't have or want to use a mower. My home robot vacums cost way more than an upright vaccum but I don't own one of those. But then again I don't vaccum either. There's my savings.

How do you repair it? What happens if it breaks and what about it disappearing? Also, what do the side buttons do?

They are bumpers like the front bumper. What do you mean by disappear? Like it drove away or theft? It pretty much stops once its outside it's work area until someone intervenes. I have an airtag inside of mine. I hear they won't work if taken. I don't think anyone has had one stolen yet.

As an avid Luba owner, I believe Jason has given a very accurate review. Even though there are lots of rougher type lawns using Luba it is best suited for manicured lawns. He will find the Luba doesn't cut wet grass without causing a lot of grass build-up as he cut with a lot of dew on the ground. This means you will require a good bit of maintenance getting grass bricks out from the articulator which controls the lifting of the blades. Cut dry and this problem goes away. Jason as a commercial grass man, is programmed that time means money. So the technique is to crank up the Dixie Chopper and cut like hell. The slow cut is not good for him. But, the slow cut gives a very surgical razor blade cut. Time doesn't matter as it can run around the clock since it makes no noise. It cuts my 20000 sq ft every day with no problem. Jason will find if he cuts each day working the cut down to 1.2 inches his Bermuda will shine within a week. Of course, someone has already made an after-market spacer to get the cut down to .75 inches. Good review Jason!

I am loving my Luba 5000 but I was lucky enough to be able to demo one before purchasing. I have a short steep hill at one end of my property that's pushing about 40 degrees for an incline, so I had some concerns. The Luba 5000 handles it just fine in zero turn mode and the cut on the rest of the yard is superb. I have offered to cut my 4 surrounding neighbor's yards for 1/2 of what they pay the lawn service guy presently. So now Luba is making some income for me. And for those folks who like the "tranquility" of cutting grass, sitting under the shade tree watching Luba do its thing with a couple cold one's and a cigar is pretty dang relaxing. :)

These won't do away with long care businesses. They will be an extension onto your lawn care business. In other words you will be able to drop off one of these lawn mowers and then run and work on other parts of the lawn or on a different lawn completely. In the meantime it will be mowing for you. These are way too expensive for the private homeowner to buy. But it's not too expensive compared to some of the bigger and more expensive lawn mowers of professionals. Remember, the Roomba did not eliminate the need for maid services. Or housekeeping services. Or cleaning services in general.

You can't just drop these off. You need the RTK and to map the yard. These are for home and property owners. These are not too expensive for private home owners, especially the 1000 and 3000. I own a home with about 1/4 acre and the 1000 is what I have. If I pay $50 a week for 25 weeks of weekly service that's $1,250. The Luba 1000 is $1,800. Less if you have discounts. I'm never cutting grass again!

From a function standpoint, the mower is impressive. But from an engineering standpoint, it is not serviceable. The physical design makes it pretty much unserviceable by the owner, from disassembly, to the availability of parts. For a review of the substandard design, see the following review: kzitem.info/news/bejne/zaVotmqIbF96o6A

Not so sure. Seems like owning 15-20 of them and go to a neighborhood and deploy them in the morning. Go back at the end of the day and pick them up. Saves thousands in gas and labor. Seems like a far better business model than gasoline powered mowers with humans on every one.
@racylaserjet
Жыл бұрын
You'd have 1/2 the yards already cut by the time you did that. You still have to setup the RTK, map the yards, no go zones, etc. They definitely require babysitting and tweaking after initial setup. I don't think a single Luba owner has truly had a first time set it and forget it.
@andyfeimsternfei8408
Жыл бұрын
@racylaserjet I'm not saying using a Luba, but the same tech can be developed to do exactly what I said. Even if you had to spend a day setting up a RTK unit and mapping every home, you would make a lot more money. Fuel savings would be 99%, one person could run the whole operation now done by several humans and customers would love the no noise and mess. It's coming.
@racylaserjet
Жыл бұрын
@@andyfeimsternfei8408 You'd still have to do the same thing. You'd also need to support and maintain all the RTKs and power for them left at ever location. A neighborhood or community built for it from the ground up could be the future though.
@andyfeimsternfei8408
Жыл бұрын
@racylaserjet Why? You tell your customers you will mount and RTK on their house and plug it in. It's part of the cost of lawn service. Point is, a 6-8 person crew running 3 or 4 gas mowers, burning dozens of gallons every day can be replaced by one guy deploying the mowers in the morning and picking them up in the evening.
